i was thinking of going active with 140s/62/2xhicaps. a friend has offered me an 82 in exchange for 62/2xhi/140.would the 82/140 give me a better sound (control and detail). or would i be better of going the active route with the pair of 140s.

I briefly used a pair of 140's and an IXO with my Credos and I was very impressed.

Andy,
I'm not sure I understand your situation. It looks like the trade is 62/2 x hi/140 for an 82. That opens up lots of possibilities, and it may be an OK trade in terms of market value but no in terms of useability.
Also, do you have 2 His or do you use 2 His with the 62?
I think an 82/hi/140 would be lots better than a 62/hi/140 and lots better than an 82/140. OTOH, I know I preferred a 72/hi/250 to an 82/hi/140 - but that answer doesn't address your question.
