Car lease

My trusty old Nissan Micra has sadly just been declared unfixable. Unfortunately we are going through a period of financial difficulty at the moment so buying a replacement is out of the question. I was thinking that leasing a small car might be a possible solution. Has anybody any experience of this? I'm looking for a basic compact with automatic transmission.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received.
