Is this what the world of music has finally come to?

I'd like to say that this is beyond belief! However, due to the 'chav' culture we are now living in, it is hardly surprising.

Depressing it is, but news? Things have been this way, or at least close to this bad, for quite a few years now.

There was shite in the charts in the 1970's.

I continue to find great new music - you just have to use the right sources.

Plus ca change..............

The singles charts have a long glorious history of novelty rubbish getting to No1. It at least keeps things in perspective and stops anyone geting too serious about it all.

I'm terribly embarrassed but I believe it's swedish Frown

Just out of curiosity (NOT because I have the slightest interest whatsoever in acquiring it) but does this mean that exists as a cd as well as ringtone? Or do ringtone sales now count towards the charts?

If it does exist as a cd, I wonder how much more annoying it sounds through a proper hifi!

I think the downloads now counted as sales ie = to a single.

It's not all bad. At least it's kept Coldplay off the top of the chart.

Naim should release a pic chip software upgrade to ensure it cant be played on their machines...

I'd buy the pic upgrade if it made Coldplay unplayable as well (just in case someone tried to sneak one on while I wasn't watching). I think that those whining vocals would destroy the system that I've spent much time, care and money putting together.

There's definitely a market here for someone to develop a 'good taste' chip!

As if he (C Martin) should care what I think. Nor do I get to wake up next to Ms Paltrow!

Unfortunately it would exclude or include every thing to cover the "good taste" of everyone.

Graham,

Do you ever listen to the 'now show' on radio 4. A little while back mitch benn did a very funny spoof song called 'everything sounds like coldplay now'.

Indeed I think it was only eclipsed by the incomparable 'die westlife, die'.

No, but I did hear it, either as a trailer or on Pick of the Week.

Everyone tells me that Coldplay are brilliant, but I run a mile whenever I hear that extraordinarily monotonous voice come on. Are they the modern equivalent of Status Quo?

Graham,

Not sure if they're the equivalent of status quo (don't know the latter's work well enough) but they are terrible. Fortunately most people I know seem to share that opinion, so I should be okay without the pic upgrade for the moment.

The X & Y CD by Coldplay will be at number one in the album chart - i don't think the frog will manage that one...

Why are you all complaining ?

The Frog Song is truly excellent, the most annoying sony I have ever heard, perfect for driving the neighbours mad.

I can't understand all the fuss about the revolying frog. Do't you remember (well, maybe you're too young) such classics of recorded music as:

"She wore an itsy-wistsy teeny weeny yellow polka-dot bikini"

"The chicken song"

"I'm walking backwards for Christmas"

and the never-to-be-forgotten "Mairzy doats and dozy doats and little lambsy divey"

That's the charts for you. Quality gets in merely by accident.

The list is endless. As you say Ken - quality is a by product. But there's a simple solution - don't listen to it! This also works for TV and the papers (pedants please replace listen with watch/read)- and frees up a lot of time for the good stuff. Now, where's that puck...

Hey, don't conflate the late great Spike Milligan's whimsical ditty with that other crud.

One of my clearest memories of my childhood is of my parents listening to the dozy doats song on Sing Something Simple in the late '50s - early '60s on a Sunday night. Needless to say I hated it. In fact it used to depress me deeply, this wasn't helped by my father's love of Jim Reeves, which he would play constantly. If only it had been Hank Williams or Johnny Cash he could have been the coolest dad around.
