Campaign for clemency

Chaps
I notice there is a bit of tension and some undercurrents going on here at the moment so I ask for some clemency.
How about before we post we all consider the following;
1] Don’t thread crap.
2] If you want to contribute, make it constructive that adds to the discussion, not some flippant one liner.
3] Make this a friendly place where the many potential contributors who are lurking feel they want to join in too.
4] NO BULLYING.
5] Remember this is part of Naims “face” on the internet. They can pull this at any time. Wouldn’t that be a shame?
Happy posting.

Absolutely. I look at some of the other fora from time to time. This is the only one I spend any time on.

I agree with pretty much everything on this thread. It's good stuff!
One thing I'd like to suggest is that contributors re-read each contribution before posting it - checking for clarity of expression and (if it's not too much to ask) spelling and grammar.
For sure, where English is not the primary language of the contributor, spelling and grammar shouldn't be a big issue....... but for those who can write good English, I think it would be good to make the effort.
It just makes the forum look that much more professional. Naim is a very professional organisation and the forum is a public face of Naim.

I thought gentlemens' clubs were just the place for a little fizz!
Seriously, the sentiment is right but let's not be too quick too take offence. Email is a great tool but it becomes unworkable if, dear reader, you don't grant a little indulgence.
Now, let's have a heated debate!

Only a thought but I think the forum is generally very informative and useful - it has helped me resolve some dilemmas. The majority of replies are sensible and considered but at times I get the feeling that some people post to boost their post stats rather than post a considered reply or are quick to suggest that the answer to any question is to spend even more money on Naim equipment.
Its good to think how non-posters view the forum as well as this is a hobby about musical enjoyment and we should encourage others to join the fraternity.

Now it’s in the Cell we can go off topic and discuss something controversial.
Would someone else like to set the ball rolling!
My analyst has told me to reduce external stress factors so it will not be me. He blames the self-harming on these "external" stress factors! Only kidding!!!

Phew! Some perspective at last - I thought I was going mad!
I don't think I've ever seen so much sanctimonious bollocks spouted in one thread

I think that tolerance is more important; that, plus consideration as to the thoughts, feelings and opinions of others.

Well, I suppose a thread like this was bound to generate some of the replies it has. Also, I think some people have misinterpreted my original statements [or perhaps I didn’t word it very well?].
My intention was to try to make this place welcoming for ALL. All those people who lurk and don’t join may have very worthwhile experiences to share to all of our benefit but are not willing to join because they are intimidated by some of what they see. Potentially, wouldn’t that make this an even better place to be?

It is quite possible to disagree, while being nice and polite to the poster you disagree with.
I wish people would stick to a nice robust debate and when their argument runs a little thin avoid the temptation to personally abuse the poster, rather than politely perhaps even demolish his position or argument! If you have lost the argument, then abusing someone simply underlines the fact that your argument cannot face examination!
Nothing wrong with robust debate if that differentiation is clearly kept clear - between the points of debate and those making the points.

I think that what you want to get out of a forum depends very much upon what else is going on in your life. I for one have retired from, and still partly involved in, a profession which calls for a lot of forceful debate, a certain amount of abuse.
Therefore, in the arena of my hobbies, I do not want to get involved in abuse and would want to keep the tone of debate the same as if I were talking to forum members in person.
Perhaps I have gone soft in my old age; but my ideal world is quite pleasant to live in, even if it is a bit lower on adrenaline than some folks would like.

PS anyone remember the old Tom Lehrer quip "Life is a bit like a sewer, what you get out of it depends on what you put in to it." Maybe like forums too. I rest my case. A black aluminium one...

I fully agree with you George and I do think a few posters slightly misinterpreted Julians initial points, but this is the nature of forums and what we must remember here are the positives. The Naim Forum is still the best place to debate.
Regarding numbers of, shall I call them non-posting members. I can state for you here as a dealer, I am surprised by the proportion of customers who regularly read the Forum (without posting themselves)and use it as their main source of information rating it way ahead of the Hi-Fi mags in terms of importance when researching a product! IMHO They should be given every encouragement to do so.
So IMHO let's keep it factual, keep it clean, keep it relevant, keep it positive wherever possible, and keep it interesting! Probably in that order of importance. However, everyone must have the right to challenge something when they feel a statement is incorrect. That’s pretty democratic I guess.........

Dear Peter,
I could not agree with you more! On the whole I think that the forum gives a good account of itself. Perhaps less so here in the Cell, but certainly in the Music Room and the Hifi Corner.
You have probably noted that I have given up posting about vinyl!
Best wishes from George

Hi Peter.
I must agree too, although I'd put the 'keep it interesting' bit in first place I think.
As a forum this place is far and away the best I've seen. It's the only one I use. Some people may have unrealistic expectations of their fellow creatures.
