Count yourself lucky Minime. Last year I had a bad back and my wife was put in charge of moving the system. After powering everything back up the treble was faint and metallic and the bass was almost nonexistent. Leave it to warm up I said. A few weeks later and still nothing and by this stage the volume control was wound all the way round. Turns out she had plugged the speaker cables into a central heating duct.

I note there is a marked tendency in this forum to treat women as inferior/stupid/bossy/deaf and I think this is a big shame. I guess I just got lucky when most of the rest of you made some bad choices in life - but that's your fault not her's.
My wife (I note you never give them names) is just as big a music and HiFi freak as I am - which makes our system twice as much VFM.

Harry,
Sorry, I was just having a laugh on a stormy Wellington Tuesday. The wife I often refer to in these threads is a fictional character.
My real wife (Nikki) is superior/smart/good natured/with great hearing (and beautiful to boot). If anyone made a bad choice it was her, which I am afraid was her fault.
Another great thing about Nikki is that she hates hi-fi. Loves music though. Not sure what that does to our system's VFM ?
Posted on: 10 June 2003 by Malcolm Davey
Increases the VFM many fold, you have the best, music is what it's all about not hifi.
Remind yourself everyday that Nikki is a woman of impecable taste, as indeed is Mrs D, except when she is wrong.
(Thankgoodness she does not view the forum, Seagull has to be so careful

Wow! Where do you meet women like this - all the women I see around seem to be into crap like Blue, Westlife and that dork Timberlake!!
Yeah - whether in jest or not, count yourselves lucky you've got something other than a cuddly toy and a fair-ish system to come home to every night
On that subject - has anyone heard that Roachford album? I know it's probably in the same league as Blue or Westlife musically but I'm curious - I used to really dig the video to Cuddly Toy when it was in the chart (I was 13) - it was those Marshall amps that did it for me!
When the music's over turn out the lights

As Malcolm says, I have to be careful what I say here as Mrs Seagull not only occasionally reads the Forum but has also contributed!
She is indulging me at the moment, allowing me to spend time and money getting the hi-fi up to a new level. Indeed when we had some visitors round recently she was proudly showing them the new hi-cap!
Many wives/partners appreciate the music played on our sistems but most cannot be bothered with the hardware and certainly not getting involved in something perceived as nerdy such a hi-fi forum.
We all bring something different into a relationship. Me, it was the hi-fi and record collection. Mrs S? Well I'm not going to discuss that here
Most wifely references are written in jest and not meant to be derogatory. I'm sure even 'The Nagger' is a very nice, tolerant lady, she must be to put up with Mike!

my original post was supposed to be lighthearted and humorous and also show how easy it is to mess up the sound of a system. too much starch in the collar i think.
jonathan a mana support and a bib should help with that dribbling speaker or maybe if it is really good at dribbling you could get £3000000 by selling it to real madrid barcelona or ac milan.

Hahaha Go and ask Naim ladies to spend your time with. You will all be talking about NAC, NAP, NAPSC, SL2. etc... Is that great? and for surre those beautiful ladies will know how to hook up your system better than you.

Hi lads
It's Nikki here, Minky's wife.
You'll be pleased to know that I've fully recovered from the swift and severe beating received not too long ago. I also visit the one that got hit in the head with the SBL (sister in law)- she's doing well with the dribbly bib.
But seriously, Minky and I had great fun selecting the new hi-fi gear. While I don't know much about the equipment or technical terms, I'm pretty good at 'hearing' and feeling what sounds good.
Since the arrival and warming up of the system, my pleasure of music has increased ten fold. It's also made him in-doors stop watching as much trash on the tellie and really get into his guitar playing. He's even been heard singing!
Well I'm off for a nice soak in the bath on a blustery wet Wellington nite.
Happy surfing, chatting and listening.
Nikki.

Was looking for a pair of speakers with my lover few months back. Walked past a shop who sell a pair of old Ela & since i have read in this forum that they pair naim amp pretty well so we went straight in for a demo.
As a form of respect to her & as well as to instill some hifi interest to her - I asked her how its sound during the very first minute of her fav Norah Jones "Don't Know Why"
Guess what & i really "Dun noe Y"?! - She gave me a CHOKE SLAM follow by a DDT & shut me up. All right in front of the saleman.
I was disturbing her listening pleasure over there.
Hahaa & Guess What Again - The Ela was Reserved by her on the very day - for me
Regards
Wayne

At the risk of being accused of having no sense of humour, being stiff necked, etc., I'd like to respectfully point out that wife beating isn't a subject for humour. Many lives have been ruined by it. Please concentrate on discussing Hi-Fi.

What the hell is going on with these Junior Members these days?!
Every single day a new one pops up to tell us we're wrong.
I'm sure we are, but why join us then? - I sure wouldn't...

Herman,
From what I can see in your profile you're the junior compared to Mr. Roosevelt.
So a little respect might be appropiate.
Regards,
Rob (from the North)

"Funny" is even more personal than speaker choice. I have to agree with roosevelt though, I've not found this thread amusing.

Is Naim the only way forward?
Ahh, Ahh! I'm burning!!

This thread has been bothering me.
Jonathan, I'm afraid that while I can appreciate your post was an attempt at humour, it's got to go.
I don't wish to delete the entire thread (unless I'm forced to do so) so please everybody keep it fair and with no references to domestic violence.
Richard

richard it was but my first post [i would like to put an arrow in you the wrong way around] and the second post by minky [the wife recieved a severe beating of frightening swiftness and severity} both were said in humour and jonathans post was probably no worse but our 2 posts are left alone and jonathans was deleted.no one [including my wife] can see why people would take offence at these posts as they were an attempt at humour i see on other threads [the best short jokes] scousers and the irish come in for some stick not to mention jokes about nasa astronauts, palistian women bombers plus others] still stand because the same people who were objecting to the lighthearted posts on this thread would not dare to go ranting about racism the jewish/palastinian conflict and dead astronauts as they know people on that thread would tell them to get a life.

minime,
your post was left as you merely expressed a wish to express just how annoyed you were by the connection error. The last piece was somewhat unnecessary but I don't think any body reading it would have thought you may actually undertake anything along those lines.
Minkys post I thought I'd moderated - I see it hasn't gone through so I will go back and do it again.
Jonathan's post described an unpleasant piece of domestic violence that he had (allegedy?)undertaken. Whether in jest or not, it was completely unacceptable. The post was deleted rather than moderated as there wasn't much left worth leaving up once anything offensive had been deleted.
It goes without saying that this is the Hi-Fi Corner, not the Padded Cell... Heck, even if it had been posted in the Padded Cell, I doubt I would have taken a different course of action.
I don't delete or moderate posts lightly but in this case Jonathan's post concerned me so I decided it had to go.
