minky don't say the [L] word on here this is blasphemous and you will face the wrath of the stiffnecks talk about your hi fi but i'm sure a few of the forum members [you know who you are] cannot hear their's properly due to the disadvantage of having their head up their own arse.

Robbie,
Too many years splashing around in clogs has made you really dull.
You should really get out more often you might get a sense of humour along the way.
I'm with minime on this.
If I had to base which of you lot I would most like to have dinner with, it would be pretty easy based on the narrow mindedness expressed here.
Get a life guys!

Jonathan,
Yes,I'm an dull old middle aged, narrowminded man.
Once you're in your 40ties you'll learn to accept that. You'll learn too...
Are you going out tonight or won't the wife/girlfriend/boyfriend let you ?
Kind regards,
Rob

Having watched this thread with interest, I agree with the moderation/delations that have taken place.
The thing about jokes is that every joke has a target. No matter how well constructed the joke, a poor choice of the target will turn an audience against you every time.
Women being the target of jokes having to do with violence is a controverial choice. This was YOUR choice - failure of other forum members or the moderators to fall down laughing does not indicate a sense of humor failure in this case.
If it had been me, I would eat crow, stop posting to this topic, and realize I have no reason to leave this forum per se.

Greg,
What does eating crow mean?
Is it anything like eating humble pie or your own hair?
I feel sufficiently chastened.
I am just off to build a 50 foot funeral pyre on my back lawn before I go to BP and pick up some 98 to douse myself in and drop the match.
Greg, you will note that the only victim in this piece or barbarity is me.
Hope that is OK with you.
Jonathan.
PS Do you where cardies and grey zip up shoes?
Go on, bet you do!

This is a fascinating bunch of phrases indeed. So Greg is saying, in the italicized bits, if he had been him, he'd not posted? So he is posting to say he wouldn't post? Wow. Great idea.
Perhaps somebody can help me out with the latter part of Greg's statement. I just don't get it - which makes me suspect it's deeply important.

herm i think i have sussed your enquiry a post is not a post when it's a fence [broken and used towards jonathan's funeral pyre].i hope this totally confuses the stiffneck's.it's just a shame crows are not a protected species quote [i would eat crow].herm, jonathan is this legal as it seems barbaric and distasteful. i must phone r.s.p.b. anyway chaps the system is now back on song jeff buckley's grace is a treat.

yes just slightly above the usual amount of sssss but when you notice it you seem to listen for it rather than just play music. i did notice something not quite right until i returned the ic's to the correct position.

As I have read it, minime made a controversial post at the start of this thread and it has been downhill ever since. Minime is bothered that people don't think his post and subsequent ones are *really funny* and he has 'threatened' to pack up and go elsewhere.
My post was directed mainly at him. If *I* were him and had gotten into this mess, my earlier post sets out a suggested course of action. His continual posts in this thread are only likely to make things worse.
And, obviously, I'm not the Forum Police or whatever. Turns out I have a background in professional comedy writing and one of the toughest, and most important lessons that a pro has to learn is to choose the subject matter appropriately. An obviously overweight woman can make "fat" jokes and she has the credibility to do it. She can make it FUNNY because SHE is the target of the joke. Its not so funny when a skinny guy delivers the same material.
Jonathan - I MISSED your post but follow the moderator's lead in deciding to delete it. My admittedly imperfect reasoning is that it must have been over the top given the other posts that have been allowed to stand in this thread. Sorry if I'm wrong on this one.

TO GREG, quote [watched this thread with intrest]. if you were bothered to read this thread properly it was minky not i who said he would leave i and a few of the forum members on this thread could not give a toss what other's think is really funny or not. my first post is not controversial at all if it was it would have been deleted read what the admin said. i never once threatened to pack up and go elsewhere i am definetly not bothered whether people found my posts funny or not what i am bothered about is people like you who read half a thread and jump in with the wrong advice to the wrong person if you are going to make a comment on a thread have the decency to read the thread in it's entirety that way you will have a better judgement and thus make the appropriate comment.when you read my posts you will see the only subject's i have poked fun at are the stiffnecks.perhaps your post should have read, watched half of this thread with intrest.

Minime -
I DID read the entire thread. Here are some highlights:
From your first post:
(about your wife) "i would bloody like to put an arrow in you the wrong way around."
After several posts about the mistreatment of women on the forum, you write:
"my original post was supposed to be lighthearted and humorous and also show how easy it is to mess up the sound of a system. too much starch in the collar i think."
And I'm not the only one who was bothered. Another contributor offered the following on page 1:
"At the risk of being accused of having no sense of humour, being stiff necked, etc., I'd like to respectfully point out that wife beating isn't a subject for humour. Many lives have been ruined by it. Please concentrate on discussing Hi-Fi."
Later, you write:
"a bit of humour dosen't go very far on this forum sorry i posted now."
And in the same post:
"no one here is championing wife beating read the entire thread and you will see and if they did i would beat them up"
So we know you are NOT championing domestic violence. And I have never - and would not based on what has been posted - say that you were.
BUT….you continue to defend the posting of such, with:
"if it dosen't amuse you read something else"
Later, you write:
"richard it was but my first post [i would like to put an arrow in you the wrong way around] and the second post by minky [the wife recieved a severe beating of frightening swiftness and severity} both were said in humour"
Saying it was in humour does not excuse it.
My point is that this is NOT the stance I would have taken, had I been the one to start a thread with an ill-chosen joke. The target of your original joke, and the jokes made by others later on, is a choice that will get an audience to turn on you. And the moderators have.
Your best bet, IMHO, is so STOP trying to defend it (I don't believe anyone thinks you're a wife-beater or any such thing, BTW) and let it drop.

i notice no reference to mistaking me for minky. i am not defending anyone. all i am saying is the moderators saw fit not to edit or delete any of my posts i am not defending anyone else i just wondered why jonathans post was deleted and recieved a satisfactory explanation from the moderator i was refering to the ic with the arrow pointing the wrong way around when i made a joke about putting the arrow in my wife the wrong way around. i know no-one thinks i am a wife beater no more than anyone else who posted on this thread. you are the one who said your post was directed at me, did i say i beat my wife up the answer is no. there were comments posted nearer to the bone than mine yet you targeted me with your inacurate post, the only reason i can see for this is i started the thread. i never said i would leave the forum and while their is plenty of more light hearted members here i won't.if they all turned into stiffnecks i would.oh and by the way the joke about the arrow in the wife the wrong way around was deemed fit buy the moderators if it's o.k. by them it should be assumed that the joke was not ill chosen at all it was ment to be light hearted if you read my post you would understand this as the moderator did.when did i complain that noone thought my posts were not really funny not once when did i say i would leave the forum not once you are the one throwing inaccurate accusations at me not the other way around as for my first post being controversial could you explain why you thought this as no-ne else was bothered at all. as it was blatant that it was a joke. have a go at me by all means this is your right as a forum member.but as that member is does not give you the right to make inaccurate claims on what i have said .

This thread should be deleted.
It's got nothing to do with Hi Fi, it's not good publicity for Naim and parts of it are deeply offensive.
What's it going to be next? Frothy little anecdotes on the hollocast? Or how about some 9/11 jokes? Oh yeah, let's see how many people fall about laughing at that.
This is depressing. Get rid of it.
