I was surprised to see this latest period of house arrest only began 18 months ago. It would be great to think this was the beginning of a South Africa style liberalisation in Burmah, but I heard a couple of Burmah watchers being interviewed on Radio 4 who thought it pretty unlikely. Hope they're wrong.

Has to be a good thing for her to be free though. Hope it lasts.

I am very happy but cautiously optimistic. She has been in and out of jail a coupe of times before so I am not sure if this one will last, but I sincerely hope so.
