Late 60's / Early 70's Re-releases

Posted by: Gavin B on 21 May 2003

Three of these albums have caught my eye in reviews in Mojo recently.

Terry Reid - River
Jack Bruce - Songs For A Tailor
Jack Bruce - Harmony Row

All three were given 5 stars. I've never even heard of Terry Reid.

Anyone familiar with these albums? Wha do you think? What more modern parallels would you draw? (of the non-obscure type!!)

Thanks

Terry Reid was a highly rated late 60s singer. He was Jimmy Page's first choice as vocalist for Led Zeppelin. He wasn't interested but suggested Robert Plant. The rest is history.

The album in question is very much a product of its time - not my cup of tea at all, so other members of this forum may be better placed to comment on it.

Jack Bruce's albums are better (great musicianship, but again, not really my bag). He's a very good bassist, and both these albums are much better than anything produced by my bete noir Sting.

It's actually quite difficult to draw non-obscure modern parallels for these albums - but that's a good thing I suppose.

But others on this forum may have their own parallels.
