Casing Upgrades

Posted by: solid state on 16 January 2004

I could be way off base here , but did I read somewhere on this forum that Naim are able to offer casing upgrades , i.e to "convert" (at least cosmeticaly) olive stuff to the new black series ? or have I completely lost it?

Yes. It was mentioned on the forum by Naim Audio. I think you should contact Naim directly. I am not sure why you want to change the casing unless the majority of your components are new. I particularly like the olive look.

Oh well , thanks for the info guys - it was my CD 3.5 which I wanted to bring into line with my new 202 pre+Napsc ,and the impending arrival of my new series flatcap to power the cd .

I guess ill just have to buy a CDS3 now !! (I wish)

Thanks and regards to all

Wonder what a casing update would do to the resale value of vintage Naim.

It might be a bad idea. You know the thing about being completely original. Car enthusiasts for example view paint colors that were'nt used on the original model as a no-no.

I reckon it might NOT be a good idea to "upgrade" the case unless you are sure you are nver going to trade in.

Casing upgrades are available for amps and power supplies but not pre-amps or cd players.

I had my old chrome bumpered Hicap converted to the new style last year. I am happy though I don't think that it was the best value for money, probably better to sell the old one and put the money towards a new one. However, in my case the Hicap in question had been re-capped and serviced the year before so it was marginally worth it.

Contact Naim for pricing.

I agree with Geoff. Casing upgrades will de-value the kit. I sold my old 160 to someone who specifically wanted a screw together case.
