Pioneer players of course Smile I bougth an LX-71 a few months ago. Blu-ray discs sound fantastic of course, as do DVDs. I've been using a Pioneer DV-939 DVD player for years and I can say that the LX-71 beats it in every department, regarding audio, which is saying something.

Thanks fellows . . . I'll say something hazardous . . . err . . hum-mm, I'd say.. do not get offended . . but . . how do they compare to a PS3 as Blu-ray players?

The PS3 is an excellent bluray player. I went with the Modwright Oppo because I wanted to take advantage of the full resolution of the high-res audio codecs. I had the PS3 connected to the Supernait via coaxial output which limits it to 24/48.
PQ may be a little better on the Oppo, but I bought it for the audio.

natnc,

Are you able to access HiDef files via the Oppo's USB?

I'm glad to know that . . . but, if I may . . . . what a PQ is? And, you feel Oppo betters PS3 sonically? See, I'm interested in audio too . . . .

Picture Quality.

The Modwright Oppo is fantastic with audio and video. The Oppo before the mod was pretty good, but nowhere near the modded unit.

I don't think it reads WAV files, but there may be a way. Ive been using discs for high-def

Thx Nat,

Shame. If it could then it would open the way for it to be used VERY flexibly.

Thanks Nat . I think to have read somewhere that Oppo Mod is not distributed in Europe . . . is it true?
I have no idea about price, but a quick Google does not give any result.

Google CRT Projectors. They're the UK distributor & will be supplying the upgraded Oppo BD83SE model, as well as offering the upgrade for existing owners. And they're an excellent company to boot!

I have a Pioneer Elite BD94 player. The picture and sound are stunning, and it's great for CD replay.

The only problem I have to report is that the unit locks up on occasion for no apparent reason.

From what I understand, all bluray players except the PS3 suffer from the lock up problem.

That's a new one on me. I've three BluRay players and none have "locked up".

Sounds like another internet myth.

I've had four BD players (one Sony, two Panasonic, and my main player now is a Pioneer LX71). They all froze on occasion while they were on early firmware versions but that stopped after an update or two. If your player is up to date and still freezing at this stage it sounds like something's wrong.

It happens when I play CDs on the Pioneer Elite BD94 (?) and the software updates don't fix it. This has been for the past 18 months, over which time it has locked up about a dozen times.

It is no internet myth.

Time for a new player then. That's an old model, equivalent in age to my original Panasonic. Which never locks up.

probably worth hanging on until january when it looks like they "will" be able to supply the SE version in Europe.

Perhaps by then, Naim "will" have launched their new blu-ray dvd player and matching AV3 processor?

Cheers

I've just picked up the new Cambridge Audio 650bd, so far I am really enjoying it going digital coax into the Supernait.

If only....

With seriously few blu-ray music dvds I can't imagine Naim even putting blu-ray on their list of "future fantasy projects"

It would be nice if the blu-ray catalogue expanded a bit - well, a lot actually!

Cheers

I think it's just a question of time Don....If I think about the number of BD discs that were in stores just a year ago, compared with now, you can see how much the format is taking a hold....

Music is never going to have the same initial priority as blockbuster films for the studios, but I do believe they will follow in increasing numbers......

Do we want Naim on the BD wagon..? Well, of course...and a few of us are wishing until we're blue (!) in the face for a AV3...I can really see this working for Naim.....I'm less convinced these days they should go the player route as well however, as much as I would love to have a player from them - it will be hopelessly late on the scene and besides, it will involve software - not HQ's strength... Eek Winker

Didn't get to see this post early enough and had already ordered.

Thought Oppo was going to be no go in UK for a while and couldn't wait. I could definitely have held on till January.

Just received a pioneer BDP-51fd all in for £209.95 which replaces my old 656 that broke down a few months ago. I hope it turns out to be a good buy. Tested at £350.00 PQ and SQ are meant to be very good, certainly looks the part.
