Posted by: blythe on 22 May 2003

An archive Be Bop concert is aparently being broadcast on BBC 6 Music on Monday 26th May 2003 22-23:00 hrs
Also 31st 06-07:00 hrs same channel.
You can listen on-line through the BBC web site or on Satellite (Sky in the UK) channel 911.

My recorder is set :-)

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Good Band

One of the best gigs I ever saw was Bebop Deluxe as support to Cockney Rebel. They tried really hard to blow the Rebel offstage but didn't quite make it. Cockney Rebel were so tight as a backing band and (Mohammered) Harley was a fine singer and showman indeed. Think I'll dig out Axe Victim and The Psychomodo now just for ole times sake

The only practical way for me to record the broadcast is onto MiniDisc. I can then transfer that via my "Optical In" onto my PC, then burn it to CD.

Assuming I can manage to actually do all of the above, I will be happy to burn those CD's for anyone interested :-)

Please bear with me and see if I can actually make it record first!
I've never done it before.....

I beleieve the show will be re-broadcast on 31 st May........

Why am I telling you this you may ask...

Well, I stuck in my first Minidisc and when that was approaching the end (74 minutes) I swapped to another one...... Unfortunately, right in the middle of Be Bop Deluxe!

So, if the 31st is a repeat, I'll make sure I get the whole gig on one disc!

It was 1978 gig from Hammersmith Odeon, basically from the Drastic Plastic tour. The sound appeard to be good through my old AKG headphones, so I am hopeful that I can make a decent CD from it.

Gonna wait to see if I can get it all on one Minidisc first though :-)

I was a big fan in the 1970:s. I always thought I was alone. I will digg deep into my record collection tonight...

Swedish Radio did send a live recording ca. 1977, I recorded it on Cassette. Wonder where it went? It might have been on TDK Chrome, they deteriorated in just a couple of years. Pity.

Thanks Blythe

That was the tour I saw, Birmingham Odeon, sitting at the mixing desk. I taught with Simon Fox's dad hence the freebie.

I recall that the audience were fairly disappointed having wanted more Blazing Apostles stuff.

I think the support was John Cooper Clarke, must dig out Bleasley Street.... 'the rats have all got ricketts'.....

I've got a Simon Fox drumstick - even has his name printed on it!

I also got a Timbale stick as used by Charlie on Ships In The Night! (Sad or what!)

Blythe

You have reminded me...in 1986 I bought a pair of Linn Kans from a man in Northallerton who had been their manager.

I should have got Jesse to get Simon to autograph the album for me...missed chance

Having just listened to the gig in it's entirity, I have heard that it is actually available on a CD callled "Radioland", so, if you're looking of the recording, it might be worth looking out for :-)

By the way, I was out onn Saturday and missed the re-broadcast..........

I put on "Futurama" the other day, it was probably 10 years since the last time. Still liked it, like meeting an old friend again. Why did he stop playing guitar and started playing with silly computers?

Hi
Another way to record the live radio feed is to access the station via the internet, use a link cable to connect the line out to line in (3.5mm jack plugs on either end). Then use whatever prog you want to record in real time, I use cool edit and it works fine. This method has the advantage of not having to change disks in the middle and the captured wav or mp3 can be edited to suit.

The Radio I in Concert has been released twice:-
First as 'Radioland' BBC Radio In Concert WinCd 065
Tracks 1-4 recorded 1/15/76 at the Paris Theatre
Tracks 5-10 recorded 10/20/76 at the Hammersmith Odeon
Tracks 11-16 recorded 1/19/78 at Golders Green Hippodrome.
And secondly as 'Tremulous Antenna' Hux 028.
According to the Bill Nelson Site http://www.billnelson.com/bebopdeluxe/main.htm the sound of Radioland is very poor but has been dramatically improved on the Hux release.
There is also a Cd of Radio 1 sessions 74-78, Tramcar to Tomorrow.
