flat cap 2 and speaker cable

Posted by: woodlowkev on 20 December 2002

I have just sold my Audiolab 8000a and 8000p amps and eagerly awaiting delivery of my new system.
I have ordered a Nac112, Nap150 and a flatcap 2 to go with my CD5.
Is it best to split the flatcap 2 between the 112 and the cd5 or use it on just the 1 (if 1 which 1).
Also I have a pair of Proac Tablette 2ooo signature speakers that like to be bi-wired and was doing this with some van den hul cs122, is this OK or do i need the Naca5 cable and forget the bi-wire.

Hi Woodlow and welcome to the sound of Naim,
Yes you do need NACA5 OR a compatible cable as the cable forms part of the amps out put circuit design. Check on the unofficial FAQ (link at top of page) for cable spec just to see if your cable is ok. The minimum run is 3.5 Meters each side for NACA5, don’t bi-wire it though just put two plugs on the speaker end and use Naim plugs. Do a search for F links to what I mean.

As for the flat cap I believe opinion is to split it, but I don't have experience of the new kit.

Environmental differences can change the connection of the FC2 and your preferences. I had the same system. I experimented. I ended up using the better of the two outputs from the FC2 on the 112, the second on the CD5.

The best advice (IMO) is to try the various combinations and use what sounds best to YOU.

Some will argue the connection schemes and their various perceived advantages. Just try them all yourself. Have fun!

Thanks for the advice, have ordered the naca 5 cable. I am still waiting for the system to arrive. (Christmas without the hi-fi help! how will I drown out the mother-in-law)
