Need help importing exported HDX files into iTunes
Posted by: busaganashi on 06 December 2009
I managed to export all of the music on my HDX onto a backup hard drive. I would like to now import the music into iTunes, i.e. "add to library" without having to individually import each of my 300 plus albums and editing the info. I see there is tagging info in each folder for each album.
Is there a MAC or Windows program that will do this automatically? I have access to PCs, but have all MACs at home.

Importing WAV files into iTunes is a pain in the neck...
Because there is no meta data contained in the files, itunes will handle each file as an individual album...I would be tempted to use something like DBpoweramp to convert to ALAC and then import them.
I went through this process for a customer and from memory DBpoweramp can write meta data info into the file based on the folder and file names it finds the songs in when converting.
There is a heap of people in similar situation to you with iTunes - a google search will provide you with some ways of doing what you want.
I seem to remember that by the time we muched around with data backups, conversions, testing, travel to customer, etc...we could of ripped the original CD's into iTunes anyway...or paid some uni student to do it for us !

Hi Busaganashi,
How did you do that? Do you have the new software update for the HDX already?
Regards,

Klout10 - You can see the HDX from a networked MAC/PC. You can access it with a password. If you email Naim they'll give it to you. They won't post it in the forums though.
PureHifi - I'd like to preserve the original importing done by the HDX. Would I have to actually "convert" the files? I'm assuming if I convert into Aiff, for example, it will not somehow change the mystical bits enchanted by the HDX.
I tried using MAX to convert a sample album or two and it didn't add the metadata.

I don't believe you need a Naim password. Just access through file sharing in your own network. Perhaps your own password.
I think the easiest way to move wavs with data is to use MediaMonkey on a PC. Make a folder. Drag one album at a time into it. After each drag have MM search only that folder for music. Import one album at a time to keep them organized as albums and not tracks. Then ask the player to search data and art for that album after selecting all the tracks at once. After one album is tagged, it's safe for the next transfer and you only need to add the next album. The earlier one can stay without issue. It's not as bad as it sounds. Once rolling, you can do an album per minute or less depending on speed and internet connection.
You may just want to wait for the update. I believe they're changing the file system somewhat and music may become easier to move though I can't be certain if it will make a difference with wav files.
