Exposure X

Hi all

I got a SH Exposure X today for use in a bedroom sistem. Originally wanted a Nait 1 or 2 but saw this on Ebay and had a go and picked it up for £127.00 plus Postage. Has the box but no manual. Slotted it into the second sistem, A cheapo Sherwood CD player driving Kef Cresta 2s on 20" stands. Interconnects are Kimber hero and Ixos speaker cable. And it ain't half bad. Really gutsy, dynamic and surprisingly musical. It's more than capable of showing up the limitations of the CD and also papering over some of the more obvious cracks. Has anybody else got one of these old Exposures and anyone compared it to a Nait 1 or 2. Also does anybody know where I can get a copy of the manual.

Hi. I have not heard the X but I have heard a sistem with a pre/power combo from the same range. Really nice amps. Your amp was very wellrated. Have you checked on the new Exposure website for manual?
I wonder if you can have it serviced/recapped somewhere. Maybe it's as good as a Nait?

give it a week time, it will kill the Nait.

Hi Syd.
My wife had a Exposure X amp when I met her. It was very good, however, she has heard three Exposure X and they all sounded different. The phono stage was better than the line inputs and the amp out performed the Nait in tests at the time. Early models had transformer problems (you could hear the radio without a tuner). Wish we kept it for our second setup Frown, enjoy Smile.

Had one of thexe excellent amps some years back and loved it to bits. Also had the phantom radio reception problems and I was never less than alarmed my the huge THUMP through the speakers at switch on. So good was the sound however, that I didn't care.

Heard an Audio Innovations valve amp a couple of years later and couldn't leave the shop without one. Got a good price for the X.

Fondly remembered.

Cheers

Thanks for all the info especially the lack of protection. There certainly is an almighty thump on switch on but that won't be a problem as I leave everything powered up all the time. For such a cheap sistem it really is very enjoyable.

Rob

I tried the Exposure site but it appears to be in the process of being completely renewed and I can't find anything relating to an archive. Thanks for selling me the amp by the way. I will soon be annoying the neighbours as bedroom is through the wall from theirs. OOPS!

Update

I used a search engine and found the Archive section of Exposures site that way. Thanks again to all who posted.
