It's getting a bit personal on this thread. Please stick to the topic - or has this thread run it's course..?

Mike,
You predicted correctly. I predicted Mike Befuddley would realise he had made a mistake and apologise which only goes to show that no one is infallible.

Richard.
As a moderator you are not at all moderate.
There really is nothing going on here except some harmless, pointless banter. That you think differently is indicative of a fellow not really suited to his task.
You really should have yourself replaced; Moderators should not be so obviously anal.
By definition a moderator should have elastic tolerance. (Even toward such unfortunates as Sniper.)
No doubt I'll now be banned and this thread removed?
Please be honest and consider having yourself assessed by whoever has an interest in this forum at Naim.
All the best, Paul

Paul,
A moderator should be able to steer a topic now and again to prevent it running off course. The Padded Cell is given a lot of leeway in my opinion and if Naim had their way it would perhaps be moderated more heavily. This is after all a Hifi forum...
If you are unhappy with the forum moderation then by all means contact Naim with your grievance. Apart from that, thanks for your support.

Who is worse - those who seek to get a rise from people or those who duly oblige?

Richard,
Thanks for the civil reply; I was expecting less so.
Perhaps it is simply a matter of opinion but the leeway given in some recent posts seems to me to have been insufficient.
My primary reason for stating this is simply because everyone who posts here is a thoroughly grown adult and simply does not reqire a great deal of protection from things that 'are getting a bit personal' imo. Anyone posting here is likely to have learned to protect themselves and should be allowed to do so or not.
Also by definition, the padded cell is not really a hifi forum. More a random conversation house linked to one?
Still, someone has to be boss.
And I would not dream of complaining to Naim. That is the kind of nannying I abhor.
Best regards, Paul.

Hi 151.
I can see how plenty are going to think so.
But as Richard said in his reply, this kind of thing is all about opinion.
As for being out of order, unless abusive it's difficult to see how any honestly expressed opinion can be so?
Cheers, Paul.

Although most of what seems to be the moany posts are from people who I suspect on my "ignore" list, its worth remembering it is the Naim Forum.
Over time I've toned down some of my replies for that reason.
Nobody has to stay if they don't like their rules.

Just read the comment about "harmless banter" in a quote above. ( The poster being on my "ignore" list )
What poster "A" might consider as such, could be seen by others as being OTT or just plain offensive.

Then they are grown-ups and can say so.

Paul,
I was referring to the Naim forum in general as being a forum for Hifi discussion. Yes, the Padded Cell, is an area for other discussion, but it is still subject to forum rules and I hope most posts here retain the same civility that is (usually) found within the other rooms.
It's worth bearing in mind that the members who post here are not the only ones who read the forum. Indeed, the actual posters are very much in a minority. This is Naim's "house" and as such they have to be mindful of what anyone will see should they decide to look in the window. You may not like this but then there are other forums where they may not care what impression they give. Naim are mindful that the person looking at the forum may be a customer, potential customer or business partner.
It could be argued that Naim have a duty of care on the forum and, as an extreme case, if something defammatory or libelous is posted here, who do you think will be held responsible? As a successful commercial enterprise, Naim have to be very mindful of this too.

At the risk of being predictable I must say I predicted this thread would end in tears. Personally I do not find the insults directed at me offensive in any way.

I'm not barracking for one side or the other in this argument, but I find it interesting to speculate on what the reason might be of what is "acceptable" or not from one forum to the other. On A.N.Other forum for instance, also hosted by a professional product to do with expensive bits of machinery, it's just about "anything goes" with many threads containing "personal" ding-dongs of quite extreme language that are simply left to evaporate at whatever their natural valve setting happens to be and nobody thinks twice about it. And they're all grown-ups.
Just saying, like...

Very well put.
When a thread is more about an individual poster than the subject in hand perhaps we should all hear alarm bells and walk away.

No, I said 'we'. 'We' being the forum. Best not try to contradict me unless you have thought things through.

One thing that should be entirely clear is that no one here on the Forum speaks for me even in the slightest! There is no Forum "We" in my book.
So dear Snipper, you had better "think things through" before you start trying to speak for me!
Even people I agree with find that it is ill-advised to speak for me ...

I don’t know how they get away with it.
“Pope accused of ignoring pleas to stop priest who molested 200 deaf boys”.
This clearly misrepresents the facts. Anybody reading the heading would be under the impression 200 boys where molested by a priest due to the fact the pope failed to stop him.
The article states the boys where molested pre 1974. The Archbishop of Milwaukee brought the matter to the attention of the current pope in 1996.
It would be a better idea to call for he resignation of the journalist who wrote the headline.

'We' refers to the collective members of the forum not specific individuals. More specifically within the context provided the word refers to those members of the forum who may be interested in the results of the allegedly 'scientific' experiment outlined by steveO.
how 'we' would know that steveO has not falsified the alleged results is NOT in any way dependent on my powers of prediction (as steveO seems to think) but on the unbiased monitoring of the experiment by an independent third party and by the reporting of those findings on this forum thread where they can be read by any forum member with an interest in the matter. This is clear in my view. Why you seem to think I am attempting to speak on your behalf or anyone else’s is a mystery to me.
