Ellington on the cheap
Posted by: woodface on 25 November 2003
I recently bought two live sets of Ellington recorded in Paris. Each one is made up of 2CD's with about 2 hours of music in total, the first dates from mid 50's the 2nd from the 60's. Each one was just 5.99 from HMV and there are a whole series of them for other artists. If anyone has yet to discover Ellington this is the place to start, wonderful live recording, wonderful music with solos from Hodges, Anderson, Gonsalves, Carney et al.

What is the website for HMV?

The label is 'Laserlight' Digital, there are two sets at HMV, the early 50's date is the stronger. There is loads of Ellington available dirt cheap but often the quality is poor; these are excellent.
