Unlucky coincidence?

I recently got an ex-dem DVD5 and last weekend obtained a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it up to my 10-month old Panasonic 37" 600-series Plasma. Everything worked fine and fired up the nearest DVD to test it (Pirates of the Carribean), to good effect; picture good, sound excellent (with a Chord cable, DC1 on order). Then thought I'd try it with a music DVD and switched over to Badly Drawn Boy. Menu came up OK momentarily, but then a screen of white noise, switching inputs and back made no difference. Left the room to get the manuals, and on return now just a screen with a thick black line verticlly down the middle and 2 white ones either side (like the tuning signnal on old TV's). And that was pretty much that. It was collected by the warranty people and apparently a Digital Board and the Screen need replacing. Can't see that anything I did should have caused a problem, but it seems a big coincidence. Any precautions I should take when connecting things up again on receiving it back?

A VERY strong recommendation to make all connections BEFORE you power up the units. TVs usually have a floating earth (which can be at up to half mains voltage) and connection to the correctly earthed socket or lead from a Naim unit can cause problems as this is pulled down to 0v.

A quick Google gave - http://www.marcspages.co.uk/tech/4001.htm which seems to cover it (but hardly read).

So - even the most brilliant among us.

I, strangely, haven't.

Furthermore, zeotropes often exhibit a nonlinear temperature/enthalpy relationship. ???????

My New DVD5 had some significant problems with a Sim2 Domino whe I connected these for the first time (DVI to HDMI)

The Sim 2 needed to have some circuit board replaced and the DVD5 likewise.

Both Items were brand new and this episode caused alot of headaches for the suppliers of the DVD5 and the SIM2

Got the TV back yesterday, with new bits. Will wait till I have a good amount of time to reconnect and ensure everything's switched off before doing so! I assume DVI to HDMI should be the best connection; it certainly says to use the DVI socket in the DVD 5 manual if possible and hope it's not more dangerous than any other type of connection!
