Ivor T interview

Posted by: Andrew L. Weekes on 20 May 2001

BADA have made the recent interview that appeared in the British Audio Journal, between Ivor Tiefenbrun and Malcolm Steward, available from their website.

It's in Adobe PDF format, so you'll need the Acrobat reader if you don't already have it, available from www.adobe.com.

Interview is here.

It's a very interesting read, irrespective of your views of the current Linn direction / product range.

enjoyed reading that interview too. malcom's interviews always have that little something in them. you can tell though that the big man has mellowed a bit with age, but still sounds like Ivor.

i recall an interview he did with julian, i think in the old flat response. it contained an extremely good quote regarding his preference for talking to the real man over a low bandwith phoneline, rather than going to his hotel and only getting to talk to the doorman.

anyone remember the exact quote. would make a very good edvert for naim kit.

enjoy...

I have a copy of this somewhere at home - I'll dig it out.

The quote you mention was a great illustration of the content over presentation argument. The same interview also contained the comment about how it made no sense to seperate the PSU from the power amp - someone on the conference won a CD from Naim for spotting that one, in the light of the NAP500.

For those that haven't read this I've found the original interview that used to be available from Naim's website, between JV and US broadcaster Peter Sutheim.

It's from August 1991, and a lot has changed since then (including the now famous quote about how it makes no sense to seperate the PSU from a power amp - it never pays to be so certain!).

It's a bloody good read, and contains some very useful insights into the philosophy that founded, and continues to guide Naim today.

You'll need the Acrobat Reader again, the interview is here.
