Did you have a chilled-out Easter break?

Posted by: ianmacd on 17 April 2006

I must admit, I did.

I found the perfect therapy to Islamic Fundamentalism, Political Correctness and all the other crap that we seem to have to look the other way to these days.

Yep, I went to Formby to (try and) see red squirrels for a few hours!

It was a wonderful experience.

I took a few hundred pics to get these two. If you are interested, these are the technical details:

Camera: Canon 1DS Mk2
Lens: 200mm F2.8
Exposure: 400 or 640sec, f2.8
Speed: 200 iso
Raw File Processing: C1 Pro
Squirrel Coaxing: My Wife!

I hope you like'em! I laid in the moss for about 2 hours before I got the dappled light just behind him.

Great fun though. Or am I just very sad?

Best regards

Ian

Superb! I do hope that the little chap isn't bubbling away in your casserole pot as we admire him.

Hi Graham

Ha, ha! Nope, I'm not that cruel and I do have a heart, you know!

Pretty damn cute though, isn't he?

Yours, Ian

Oh no, Bob!
They are not!
A fat black rat is a fat black rat, but squirrels are so nice.
I have a kind of winter food dispenser for them in the wood close to the house.
They get so happy when they find walnuts to eat that they start playin' like crazy!
They're very funny and nice!

Nice pics. I occasionally see red squirrels in my parents back garden when I go home.

I went to the Bahamas for the long w/e (a 3 hour flight from Toronto). It was the first time I've been there and I had a relaxing time. It was also the first opportunity I've had to play with my new(ish) Canon digital rebel outdoors in good light.

It's the first time I've really been playing with trying to set up apeture/shutter speed so the first pic is as a result of me taking some time to remember which setting I wanted, how to set that on the camera, by that time the bird that I was trying to shoot had left, but I took the picture of the branch just to check I had set the thing up correctly!

The next couple are of some sharks that were swimming around the dock where we took a boat to the Exuma islands on a day trip.

And finally there is a picture from the beach at the island with a sting ray which they were feeding.
