HDX System Functions

In the DTC, under Tools you can find the system functions: these provide image purge, database rebuild functions and version info.
Does anybody happen to know the functionality of these? I just don't dare clicking on them since the manual says only use if instructed to do so by Naim Technical Support ...
Regards,
Michel

Michel,
I am at a loss as to why you seem so intent on deciphering and tearing apart, not literally, your HDX. I think that ultimately no good will come from all of the tinkering and you'll wind up needing an overhaul when it fails.
The whole concept behind the HDX is to not tinker as you would a computer, but to have your music stored, make some playlists, stream if you have an additional NAS and off you go.
This is what I enjoy about the HDX, in addition to the music, is the simplicity of use. I know that there are some things in the software that hopefully have been corrected, but overall it has not detracted whatsoever from my enjoyment and use.
Looking at your posts it appears that you spend more time trying to figure out what's wrong with the HDX and to tweak your own solutions than actually listening to the music.
To each his/her own I guess!

If a facility is easily actioned it should not be there if it does any damage surely. If it is it is bad design.
They should be locked away and only opened with pass words or keys from said NAIM technician.
You just know people like Klout won't be able to leave alone, and then it will all end in tears.
I suggest that if he wants to play with something, he builds himself an MS running PC that should keep him out of mischief for a long long getting it working smoothly.

Relax guys,
I'm a perfectly happy HDX owner, I'm just curious. My appologies for asking!

Michel

gary1,
I absolutely agree with you and could not have described it any better than the above.
Don't get me wrong: the HDX is a wonderfull machine. Everything works flawlessly, setup was as easy as it can get. I have not encountered any problems regarding reliability and/or stability yet.
I'm into hifi for over 20 years and the HDX is the most wonderful piece of equipment I've ever owned. Therefore, it will stay in my system for many, many years (same for my SuperNait)!
I don't need the possibility to rip to NAS (yet!). Maybe I'm the only one complaining, but I think it's rather annoying that for some albums AMG supplies wrong cover art or no cover art at all. The possibility to add covert art in some way manually would solve this.
Regards,
Michel

Michel,
I agree, hopefully this will be corrected in the next update. I have had the same issues and sent Naim my statistics from the 450 or so albums that I've ripped and I have had my HDX since release. I sent the guys my information and some other issues back in Nov of last year and I'm still waiting to see what's up. I've been waiting for that update for about 9-10 months. Thankfully no effect on listening pleasure.
The most common problem I had was the HDX using FreeDb, which has no cover art, instead of AMGs database when I checked AMG and determined that both the Album and cover art were there.
The second was getting the info from AMG with no cover art:
1. Some AMG albums did not have artwork.
2. Using the DTC and rechecking the Db downloaded coverart the second time if it was available.
I had a total of about 20 albums with these issues and resolved 8 of them with the Db rescan from the DTC. So I have about 12 albums with no artwork and I think 5 are from AMG where no artwork could be found.
So, overall much better stats than others have complained about, <5% total issues and about 2.5% remaining.
Now someone will write that for $8K it should be perfect and while I don't disagree with that sentiment in concept, in reality it never quite works that way.
