Return of the CDi

Posted by: David Patterson on 27 December 2003

Hope you all had a merry xmas, i certainly did after receiving my CDi purchased off Ebay and arriving on Xmas eve.

Like any 2nd hand purchase through the post you wait in anticipation.

I actually had one and sold it 3 months ago to be replaced with xxxx player. It had the original mech as in CDS1 CDM4 i think. Anyway this one has a different mech (can anyone tell me which). The thing is it looks NEW to me ie replaced. Also it is a product built for aNaim employee so no serial no.What age range (year) could it be.

Is there any difference in sound quality between the two. Is the newer mech less well regarded.

Lastly does anyone have a cure for light scratches in plastic(a mild abrasive polish) to make the lid perfect.

I have already been advised to get it serviced and as susch it will hold its head up well with current Players.

For £415 i will certainly never part with it.

Help anyone!

Did you outbid me?

Are you naimdrop?

I was the other bidder on that ebay auction...

It should be the CDM 9 pro mech.
Never heard th CDM 4 (I had a CDI before, but is was a cdm 9, too) but the "newer" ones with the 9 are brilliant, too. IMHO

Have lots of fun

Best regards
Guido

david, for scratches on the lid of naim cd Players, I found that products by NOVUS work well. Novus #1-cleans and shines. Novus #2-fine scratch remover.
I would first use #2 and finish with #1. I live in the US. Had trouble finding a place that sold the stuff. I bought one bottle of each and I think it cost me about 10 dollars. It wil not remove any deep scratches though very fine ones will improve. Also, dont use paper towels, they can be abrasive. Use a soft cotten cloth, like the ones used for cleaning eyeglasses. Enjoy your new player. david

Guido, you are correct argh... i been outed.
Have to say that i am pretty crap at this last minute bidding s..t. I usually always lose out.

David, thanks for that ,i will try and seek it out. The player is so damned immaculate overall i just want to sort out this one niggling point.I wonder if i could purchase just the replacement perspex from Naim.

Can any one out ther comment on the nexel ring does it look new compared to theirs?
