Unitiqute and Android
Posted by: El Guapo on 08 December 2010
Is there any likelihood of being able to control a Unitiqute via an Android mobile? AT the moment I'm holding back from buying one because I'm not willing to buy an iPhone, Ipad, iPod touch just to use as a remote control. For me this is a deal breaker

From Phil Harris' recent posts, this is very unlikely.
That said, the Qute's regular IR remote is excellent and all you really need.

Agree with John - simply not going to happen - Android is available in too many versions and on too many different phones to support.

Google are buddies with Adobe and the web/flash interface should work with an Android device. At least such is the claim of Google/Adobe.

The Qute's regular remote is nice but not much use if you can't see the Qute display from your armchair (a problem for older owners, maybe).
I don't believe there is any web interface for the Qute......well if there is I was completely ignorant of it when I tried he Qute! Would be nice if it did have one.

hmm, we've been there two or three days ago, weren't we (and I mentioned this film, I recently watched...)? see Request UPnP server software thread, even the topic's title is not very correct

Hello Jack
Us oldies have got to keep moving remember.
No web interface, but you could run a control point on a computer, or why not build a few Playlists? I have found however that that the remote works really well.
Of course, there's always binoculars I suppose!

You can try the application called "Andromote". It does Upnp control and works with the NaimUniti. There is a free demo version. You cannot control the volume but you can select tracks to play from the Upnp server (Twonky) onto the Upnp client (Uniti).

I had been led to believe that there wasn't a remote for the Unitiqute so that's no problem then. I won't have to give money to the evil empire (you know the other one)

I don't want to start the same old discussion again, but why not put this damn client on the unit itself, promoting it through the web interface and get some happy clients with and without Apple devices? My Qute is serving an ASP page, so I assume there is a web server capable to serve dynamical pages in the unit, what else is required? And if someone does not need this, for whatever reason, (s)he could just disable it.

Hello El Guapo
Not sure what you mean by no remote for the Qute. It is supplied with an IR remote control which allows full set-up, control and use of the unit.
To use the other method of control (n-Stream) would indeed mean payment to the evil empire you refer to; and I take it there's little chance of that! Funny, I thought that I was alone here with such a sentiment.........so, very pleased to meet you.

… as an android user, I also woud be happy if naim joins the train. I would suggest to start with android 3.0 “honeycomb” because it would be easier to develop for more devices …
… and thanks to okli, nice to see there is webserver running, and hopefully it will sometimes be used for more settings or ...
… and if airplay is possible with a (pricy) software-only-update I would prefer this for a next step of the completeness of the uniti …
… best christian

I'm not sure why this is a problem. Sonos have just released a nice app to control their equipment from an Android device. I use it on both a phone and a tablet. OK, on the tablet it does not fill the full screen but that does not make it any less usable. So why can't Naim?
