Almums which take time to get to know

I assume I'm not the only one who experences this, but with some albums I just know their great from the minute I unwrap them, while others don't do it for me straight away. When I get one like this I always stick it in the car and play it through a few times and more often than not it grows on me. In fact some of my all time favorites fall into this catagory.
The only problem with this is when I buy vinyl, since they don't play too well in the car!
Which makes me think, how do all you guys with turnables only get on playing music in the car, now that they all have CD players?

The stuff i usualy listen to in the car is different from the stuff that i want to listen to at home.
The music for the car is usually throwaway stuff and nothing that needs some effort or concentration put into it.

Now that's ineresting Ryan. I find listening in the car to be an extension to my home listening. I have about half an hours journey into and back from work and some days I spend several additional hours in the car and I really enjoy my listening.

Dear AFKAG
I listen to my wife's cds and one or two that have been bought for me, but I have to say that I'm with Ryan; listening in the car tends to be more casual and I'll have the radio on more often than cd. Or worse, the phone, as my job means that I'm talking on it most of the time I'm in the car.

I know what you mean Mark. Since this new phone law came in I've bought a hands free kit and I now find myself making more and more calls whilst on the road.

I've had mine for 10 years, and it just takes over. What with that and the satnav they're all competing for speaker time and I rarely get the chance to actually listen to any music!

I truly love listening to music in the car! Generally though, it's music I'm familiar with in the car. Perhaps I don't want to have to concentrate too much on it, which I tend to do more with new music. Unfortunately I haven't been clocking up many miles in the last year or so but occasionally I'll drive up to friends in Scotland & people think I'm mad given the price you could pick up an Easyjet ticket. But driving and music in the car can be fantastic - when you're in the right mood!
One of my favourites at the moment is Cheryl Crow's greatest hits cd - a quite brilliant driving collection!

PS Friday 13th had me driving up to Cymbiosis during which the stereo decided that full volume was preferable to my selection! Nothing could change it despite several efforts to switch on and off. Got in the car to return to London and I tried it on the off chance - worked perfectly & there hasn't been a problem since. Wierd, eh?

Peter ,
not sure if you did it intentionally or unwitingly but you clarified one of the cd's as driving music......which is essentially what me and Mark had said. Theres is music that fits well with drving and some that fits well at home. Both are enjoyable in their own environment though.

I usually listen to the radio, but to be honest, after an hour of defensive driving between Liverpool and Chester at rush hour, coming off a night shift, I don't usually remember anything I have listened to

Sorry Gary, last few reply's have been a bot off topic. I agree with you, some of my favourite albums have been the ones I have had to put a bit of effort into. Most of the albums I initially like usually have a short shelf life, and only come out now and again.
