Finally! Naim amps in Stereophile's Recommended List

Posted by: ClaudeP on 26 September 2003

Well, this must be the dawn of a new Era - two Naim amps finally make Stereophile's new "Recommended Components" list... or more exactly, an integrated (Nait 5, further to Art Dudly's recent review) and the Nac 552.

To be honest, if my recollection is right they already featured the Naca 5, the CD5 and the NBL's so they already gave flat-earthers good press.

With these two additions, Naim is now doing very well there - a good number of components make the list, taking into account Naim's relatively small catalogue.

Now if they can only give Antonio a listen...

A small catalogue, ... ask my bank manager. Big Grin

And 2 new born today, and 1 or 2 tomorow.

I don't read magazines for years, but all the audiophiles in Israel are not counting Stereophile as a serious magazine for many years from now.

Who's Having Who?

Quotes from the review:

"My time with the NAC 552 was time well spent. It was always exciting and inviting to fire up the system knowing that the 552 was in control. Its ability to organize and solidify the performance of my Audio Physic Avanti III was unsurpassed in my experience of those speakers."

"I never listened and thought "This is dark" or "This is edgy" or "This is grainy" or anything like that. All I thought was "This is music""
[...]
"... you have an expensive product that, when you look at, touch, and hear it, quickly lets you know that you are in the presence of audiophile greatness."

Well, hho's being had there???

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Look, guys, there was a lot of life before you were born and/or before you started with hifi.

The 62/hi/140 was listed in Class B not 10 years ago. The CDS was in Class A. The rater in both cases was Robert Harley - he actually attacked Naim on hifi grounds (the 62/hi/140 was thin, and the CDS was not detailed enough - and he really objected to the inability to eff with cables), but he repeatedly said that music was more accessible via the Naim equipment than through mots other stuff he listened to.

Regards.

Sorry Phil, but I fail to see what that changes to the current re-emergence of 2 amps on the list? But thanks for informing us...
