Unfortunately i'll be tucked up in bed, but with the length of some of the queues to vote it may not be over by the time i get up in the morning (GMT)

I know there are a handful of politically savvy voters out there who are well-versed on the issues of the day. But for the rest of us unwashed slobs here’s the 4 reasons why you probably voted for Barrack Obama:
1) You’re a Democrat showing party loyalty, or a new voter who is just so fed up with the Republican failure under W, that you would vote for ANYONE who is the opposite party of him.
2) You are blindly voting for what you’re told is “reform” or “change”.
3) He’s black, and you dig black guys… Which is probably the reason people would be LEAST likely to own up to (even black voters), but it is nothing to be ashamed of.
4) After ACORN bought you lunch and a carton of smokes, the 12th time you voted was the sweetest.

I'm staying up until I know the outcome, and that shouldn't be more than 2 hours from now. This is a momentous event and I'm not going to miss it, as it will change the course of world events, in time.
If Obama doesn't get in, then the people of the USA will have failed the population of the world. I fear that there is a nutter out there with a gun.
GWB can still do a lot of damage between now and January, which frightens me. Every day that maniac remains in the White House, the world will hold its breath.

Or your afraid of Palin being in charge of more than a hockey team bake sale.
Heard something clever on National Public Radio today, advice on how to console Rep voters in the case of a Dem win:
(paraphrased)
Yes, it’s true that Obama will seize your assets. But they’ll only be used for good. Like wedding cakes for gay marriages.
Brilliant.

It appears to have been just about confirmed on ITV news.
President Obama here we come. Surely most of the world breathes a small sigh of relief. Big problems to address but dumping the right wing incumbent ignoramus must surely be the first step.
Cheers.

At this moment, it is premature to call it.
At 9:33 EST, there are polls still open in the West. The news orgs are so eager for the scoop.
They just "called" Ohio for Obama but only about 15% of the vote has been counted.
It's not over yet, but if he really got Ohio it is a done deal.

Oink.
And the sheep/human ratio in the UK is...?
Cincinnati was known as "Porkopolis" for many years. Thank goodness I don't live near any of those stinky farms.

All over bar the shouting now by the looks of it. Civil war in the Republican party. Time for a large dram before bed I think. Out comes my finest crystal glass. For some reason it tastes better out of it.

Watching the BBC coverage here in the UK.
Really enjoying Simon Schalma arguing with Ambassador John Bolton. I might be biased, but Bolton is a pompous ass, fun watching his lot lose, and even more fun thinking of their next four years.
I do have the feeling it is such a pity Hunter S Thompson is no longer with us, I would love to have read his comment on this night.

It's been declared. He's done it. Personally I couldn't give a fat rat whether he's black, white, orange, or puce, but I'm having trouble getting my head round the fact that the US has elected a black president.
Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King, Jesse Jackson, and all the rest who worked for this, it's finally happened.
Late edit
OK I've just seen Jesse Jackson and I'm crying. Note to self: don't post when you're full of Glenfiddich.

I must say that John McCain's concession speech was extremely gracious, a true gentleman.
Getting pretty tired, but hope to hear Obama's acceptance speech before sleep.

I agree with Jamie... About Hunter S. Thompson.
I certainly hope Obama can help us clean up our act in the world going forward.

I got up early to get the news, and hear the speeches.
McCain restrained and dignified in defeat. Obama collected his Oscar with good grace!
A decade or so ago I sat up all night to hear that a fresh voice was elected as our PM. I'd bought into Blair and thought I was seeing a real change in our politics. I hope Obama can deliver on his message of unity and hope. The feeling of being betrayed is not pleasant!

That seems fair enough to me - sorry to hear you couldn't sleep though.
