next move

hello everyone this is my first attempt on the forum.
would like some opinions om my next move.
currently use cdi,82/2*hi-caps,250 with shahinian arcs.
local dealer has ex-demo cdx for £1800(too much?).considering replacing cdi with it.
then what? supercap for 82 or xps for cdx.
OR keep cdi,re-cap cdi and 250 as age is 9 to 7year old and go for supercap?

Welcome aboard, msc
Interesting dilemma. I had a CDI and went CD2 - CDX. Is some ways, the CDX would be a bit of a sideways move, albeit better; but with a different tonal balance.
If you're happy with the sound of your system, and just want more of the same; I'd let Naim loose on the CDI and the 250. You would be amazed at the difference - it's not just a case of re-capping the items. They will (if you are prepared to pay for it) incorporate certain modifications into both items, from lessons learned over the years. I have a CD3 (not CDS3!) that has recently had a new transport and other mods. It sounds nothing like CD3's used to sound!
Failing that; in your position I think I'd wait until you can afford a CDXII, but you must compare it with your CDI. It's not just better, but sounds quite different.
There is currently much debate about some people preferring the sound of the old kit.
Good luck.

Alex
Good point about system supports. I was at a friend's place the other evening, checking out his system (CD5/72/180/Intros) on some modular 'Isoblue' supports, on home dem.
For £330 (£110 per level), it has absolutely transformed the sound he used to get from a 'Sound Org' steel rack. Excellent v.f.m.

How does your system like being sat in front of a radiator (big lump of iron)?

Good point
Getting the system off of a steel rack has improved the sound tremendously, but that big lump of steel behind, can't be good.
Like a lot of us here I guess; my system ain't too far away from a steel radiator.
Has anyone, gone to the trouble of changing to an aluminium radiator to see if it results in sonic benefits?
