Connecting "no-NAIM" Power-amp directly to back of 82 ?

Dear Colleagues,

I’m considering to connecting my “no-NAIM” power amp directly to the DIN-connector at the back of my 82, rather than via the usual way of connecting to the HiCap.
I expect an improvement, since the audio signal doesn’t need to travel to the HiCap first.
Is this correct or is there a problem by doing this?

Thanks for the feedback

Urs,

I'm afraid that won't work, since you need the Hicap to power your NAC 82. Some of the Naim power amplifiers, like the NAP 140 and NAP 180, have a built in 24 Volt supply to power a Naim preamp, but it remains clearly better to use an external power supply, like the Hicap or the Supercap, to power your preamp.

Ciao!

Hello everone,

In answering my own question - I was just brave enough to try it nevertheless, with due care - of course!
I used the 4-pin DIN outlet, marked supply from power amp (?), at the back of my 82 to (sonicly) by-pass the HiCap, to connect my AYRE V-3 power amp.(Via DIN to Cinch - Van d.Hul)
If there was an improvement, it was only marginal. The advantage of this lin-up is only relevant, if you want place the HiCap away from the rest of the gear, without having to run an extra lenght of audio cable from the HiCap back to the power amp.(Or if indeed the SNAIC happens to be the bottelneck).

By the way: I have tried other "no-NAIM" power amps, both transistors and tubes. Despite the fact, that I didn't choose to buy them, I couldn't find any problems.
