Gorillaz new one

Picked this up on double vinyl.

That Mr Albarn is a clever chap. He has created the platform to express his musical ideas outside of blur whilst avoiding a lot of the associated press attention which normally comes with a more obvious aproach. The bands cartoon characters allow him an opportunity to remain anonymous in the background.

The album is such a fun summer record. It has some talking heads/ tom tom club moments as well as sounding in places like the beach boys and early primal scream.

Shaun Rider's contribution is by far the best thing he has done in an age. It is great to hear his unmistakable manc drawl over the top of a bouncy driving tune.Even Dennis Hopper pops in and provides an interesting voice over.

Highly recommended. A 'dance' album with brains.

Snap - I got my copy at Sister Ray (usually a smidge cheaper than selectadisc).

Actually, after a few listens, you wouldn't be inclined to say that all the lyrics exactly lend themselves to a summer vibe. There is some dark stuff hiding amoungst those foot tapping beats. Perhaps song titles such as 'kids with guns' give the game away a little Roll Eyes

Sister Ray it is then; I still need to have a word with them about my Antony and the Johnsons and Emiliani Torrini LP's which have been on order with them from the end of March...
