Getting a bike from USA to London?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a low cost way of getting a bicycle over here from New York? I've checked UPS etc and so far it looks like flying out myself to collect is cheapest if hardly environmentally friendly!
(ps I don't want too sell it in the US and buy here.)

There are two ways of getting your bike across, air or ship.

Ship is the cheapest but a lot slower as it may involve a couple of intermediate stops by the boat before it hits london.

The cheapest way is for you to drop the bike off at the port or airport and to arrange for a friend to collect it at a port or airport at the other end.
