Burn-in-time of 252?

Posted by: Reto D on 04 November 2003

Hi there,

My 252 arrived last Friday. First impressions:
better than 102, more of everything but not yet groundshaking. These first impressions didn't change dramatic until yesterday evening.
The big bang happened exactly yesterday at 1800 hours. Holy cow, I'm speakless.....the only thing I can say: It seems to me that this is the first time that I REALLY listened to MUSIC.

The only question I still have is: What happens after a month or two?

A happy guy

Reto

I'm happy to report mine's still improving. It's been in my sistem since Sept. I thought it had finished, but heard some new improved shit the other day... one of those "just when you thought it couldn't get any better" moments.

So be prepared for it to take a while to reach its ultimate potential. In the mean time, it'll still be putting a big smile on your dial after just a few weeks.

Reto, congratulations. that some big upgrade!!

allenB -- did you find that supercapII was better for your 252 than supercap I?? i am wondering whether the benefits of a 252 are only available with the new supercap? but i guess this cant be as i gather the supercap II is only superficially different from the older model.

Rito, whats powering your 252? supercapI or II?

enjoy

Ken

mine's on a Supercap I.

I've just checked - the 252 was installed in our system on Aug 22.

Burn-in often seems to involve a certain two steps forward, one step back, so beware!

"think about moving up from the CDX"

Allen,

Do really think the difference bet. CDX and CDSIII will also be hugely huge?

while the burn-in involves a sort of Opium Shuffle, the backward step is never retrograde where the 252 is concerned.

PS - SC2? Maybe when the SC1 is sold...

Allen,

Even when CDX is powered by an XPS1?

AllenB, I am a 52 owner, but I heard exactly the opposite: that the SC2 is huge improvement over the original Supercap...

I have seen the innards of an old hicap next to a new one,and also of old and new supercaps, just for curiosity of what the differences actually were.
With the new range of power supplys the only electronic change i can see is different power transistors, maybe the transformers have been improved but its hard to tell. All i know is this small difference inside is a huge difference musically,i dont think naim would have bothered unless they could improve on the old, they really are a lot better when it comes to listening to them.
They are the heart of any decent naim system and any improvement go a long way.
Case-wise they are identical apart from the new very attractive, heavy alloy fascia and new feet.
You know you want one.

Jun,whats the latest on your redundant burndy?

Allen,

from Naim, 3/2/03, via e-mail:-

We will be offering cosmetic upgrades for power amps and PSUs later in the year. The new Supercap is basically the same as the old one bar the new improved casework, feet and a new power switch which is an improvement over the old one. No prices on the upgrades as yet but we'll be looking at this issue later in the year.
