New Orleans J*** Fest 2009
Posted by: mikeeschman on 24 April 2009
It started today. I got in to work at 6 am so i could slide out at 3 pm and make it to Joe Cocker at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. As things worked out, I got home from work at 8:30 pm :-)
There are tremendous crowds for big acts at the fest, and I have to work myself up to that. It can suck the life out of me.
So here's our current plan for the weekend :
Cool out all day Saturday. I am going to go to my local hang at midday, and have three or four pints with a good cigar. If anyone shows up, we might do 1 or 2 shots of vodka. Then a nap.
Dinner at Dick & Jenny's, some nice duck with a glaze and a cool veggie soup.
A little stereo - something mild and unobtrusive. No, screw that :-) I'll check the nightclub listings for Saturday night over morning coffee. The nightclubs all have headliners every night for jazzfest. There are usually two shows, at 9 and 11, or one all-nighter cranking up between 10 and midnight.
sleep ...................
On Sunday, we're going to see Etta James, Earth, Wind & Fire and hang out for a while at Congo Square. The Congo has its own unique vibe, and I have seen acts and met people from the Congo at this stage.
I will not look at who's playing at the Congo in a schedule. My wife and I will simply show up and hang out.
Just remembered, no recording devices of any type, including cameras.
But you can buy what you want in the tents anyway, so we'll come away with pictures.
And CDs of everything you might imagine. I'll probably buy a dozen or so new ones to add to the collection.
And about 50 good restaurants have booths with three or four different items at each one. You are never more than 100 steps or so from a cold beer and a restroom.
When it rains, it blows big time, turning into a mud field. (just too old for that)
But it's supposed to be 80-85F temperature, light breezes and sunlight all weekend :-)
I'll let you know how Sunday goes.
I will try to maintain an even strain :-)
