We are being really censored now..

The following appeared when I wrote a short post on nothing controversial as far as I can think.
..Thank you for contributing to this forum. Unfortunately, your post will not be displayed until after it is approved by community administrators, because one or more trigger words were used in your post.
Not sure it is worth staying here anymore. this is ridiculous.
Wonder how long this post will be allowed???

Geoff

Some words in some forums are censored to prevent spamming eg 'specialised' contains the word Cialis. Maybe something like this happened??

Uhoh Geoff. After a mere 5970 posts you have been rumbled as troll!

Posted on: 31 October 2008 by djftw
Also, this is a commercial forum, it is hardly unreasonable for Naim to exercise some control over the content, and automated filters are often a good way of preventing spamming and various types of cyber attacks. Do you really feel like Adolf Meredith is oppressing you? It's simply a question of what is appropriate and proper in a given environment, and this is Naim's environment so it is for them to determine. If your post was innocent one of the moderators will approve it soon enough.

Hmm. I had one of those te other day. In my case it turned out I'd posted a link (can't remember what to now) that was against forum rules. After a short while, my post was added, but with that link removed.
At first I thought WTF!, but after I saw the change & checked the forum rules I decided it was within their Ts&Cs, so I'd no grounds for complaint.
At a guess I'd say their trigger word system was failing to take your comment in context in your case?

Over the last few years I have posted over 12,000 posts. Unfortunately 11,999 have been censored.

You didn't post anything with the word - f*u*s*e - in it did you Geoff?...
Of course Naim should control the content to some degree being their official forum and keep an eye on misuse, excessive rudeness/insult, dangerous practices etc. etc. But I can't imagine your post contained any of this.
But this said, I've raised and eyebrow or two on various edits and deletions that take place.
Richard.

There are other place where freedom of speech, although not guaranteed, appears somewhat easier! (Why I am no longer even permitted to edit my own hifi Kit list - and there never was anything from A N Other manufacturer or against the Naughty-Rules list)!!

In the mean time I'm not at all curious what you tried to post...

I am calming down a bit know.
I did post an internet link to an item of HiFi equipement which as far as I see it is no more competitive with NAIM than items purveyed by the likes of ARCAM and NORDOST which appear in a current threads title soooo....I am still a little sensitized to the 'big brother' effect.

Was it?-
I use no fuse for my chair?
I Modify every room i use for music
I rewired my whole house with A5 without breakers?
I use tinfoil as a reflector for the laser?
I find that taking the black box covers off makes everything sound better at night?
E.T. has used my lp12 for communications to his home planet.
I am sure Geoff this is an error and will be fixed shortly.

i posted a link for Macintosh allowing 75 Percent trade in right now on new equipment. That was taken down pretty quick. I was amazed that any company could afford to do this.

Mr. P - you have always been a most valued member of this forum and I can imagine few reasons why I would ever moderate a post of yours personally .
Your post contained an active link to a manufacturer's website. This manufacturer had been similarly signed up enough times (and the link manually removed) for me to add its URL to the automatic filter.
"Please do not post links to specific retailer’s websites. These are available from Find a Retailer (http://www.naim-audio.com/distrib/dealer.html) and the forum is not the place to favour particular retailers.
With this in mind - please do not post "live" links to other manufacturer's websites and please do not link to or make reference to discussions posted on other forums."
Do note - there is even a ban on our own dealers' websites.
I am presently (returning tomorrow) in the UK and less sadly welded to my computer - some moderation will have waited a little longer than usual for approval.
In addition - I have been unable to access my naim e-mail and will be attending to any outstanding mails on my return to France. Apologies for any delay there also.

When posts are edited, it would be useful for the moderator to indicate why. It is not sufficient to say "read the rules"; I have on several occasions not known why something was edited. Something along the lines:
Post edited to remove hotlink by Mr. Foo
or
Post edited to remove rude comments by Mr. Bar
This would be much more useful and instructive.

Thank you for a vey nice reply. I now feel I have been a bit churlish (only a bit).
One of the problems of advancing age is that more distant events are oft remembered whilst recent ones are filtered out of an overstuffed cortex.
I recall a time when links were frequently embedded in replies with nary a distant rumble.
I am also guilty I suppose of that arrogant assumption long serving members make that they once upon a time read the rules and therefore need not check over them in case new paragraphs have subsequently been added.
The ruling seems reasonable in isolation, I just sometimes get the feeling the forum has entered a narrowing tunnel.
Perhaps off line communication via e-mail might be of interest.

I'd like to be able to change the default message to "Message edited to reduce length of "quote".
I am sure many wonder as to control freakery when all that has been pruned is unnecessary quoted verbiage and pictures.

I was told that the 10,000th post gets nuked.
But that didn't happen as I am still here.

That all seems straight forward, but how does that differ to the links posted in this thread?

I received a mild censoring a while back. I was put "under moderation" for dialogue with a guy in NZ about a vintage guitar I had spotted in the background of a System Pix he had posted. I asked about the type of guitar and he responded by saying it was possibly for sale. Interested, I directed him "off forum" and cautioned him that the use of the forum for commercial transactions was out-of-order.
Adam put me under moderation with the given reason (slightly inaccurate) that "it was because I tried to sell my guitar".
No problems, but a reminder that the forum operates under the rules determined by the host. Effective moderation enhances forums for me. In fact I would only participate in moderated debate on the 'net. You only have to look at unmoderated troll-fests elsewhere to see that the natural state of these things is pretty ugly.

It's Naim's board and I'm happy to accept that they set the terms, but maybe if we had PMs again some of this more "controversial" stuff could be taken off board. For example what I regarded as an interesting, innocent, useful thread was cut a few weeks ago just because we were discussing DVD region hacks.
Why no PMs any more?
