The Guinness Premiership Thread

Posted by: Chillkram on 12 January 2007

As we have a football thread I think we need a Guinness Premiership thread as well in the run up to Wasps taking revenge at Welford Road in April.

Details can be found here on the season so far.

Remember, Wasps are the play off kings!

I am in the mood for a streak, so you won't miss me. (I was at Twickers for Erica Roe.)

Must have been quite an eyefull.

Looking forward to meeting up with you tractor boys (and Mark, despite what I have written).

Lets hope for a great game, and perhaps there will be two scottish managers with long faces by the end of the week end.

See you there then, chaps.

May the best team (Wasps) win!

Just setting off. I'm parking up at a friend's at Isleworth, so will be walking in from the north. I'll give you a ring when I've arrived.

Roger you can't miss me - Tight Head of the 'old school', who hasn't had any significant exercise (except right arm) for a few years. Cherry trousers (in your honour!) and Green shirt with Red and White stripes!

GGRRRRRRRR!!!

Well I will be the first to say well done Wasps, you deserved that one.

A game to far for the Tigers perhaps, they looked jaded today, but no excuses Wasps deserved the win,

Well.......
Posted on: 20 May 2007 by Chillkram
Thank you for your gracious words PB. I hope your date went well - good choice not to watch the rugby!

Wasps were awesome. Their intensity was just fantastic and they were clearly up for the game. Leicester looked a bit tired, but Wasps just did not let them play. We just doubled up in the tackle and Tigers just could not find a way through. I think in the end they gave up.

The seats we had really were up in the gods - the very highest row with only the back of the stand behind us, but what a view!

Thanks to JWM and Jamie Wednesday for the great company and really nice to meet flyfisher in the bar afterwards. Great rugby and nice people - what could be better?!!

Looks like we might just start up a forum Rugby Club for next season and travel to one or two games. Winker

Also it was great to meet and enjoy the craic with the Munster fans on the tube back home. There were probably as many of them there as there were Wasp fans and they really know their rugby. We had thought that they had been unable to sell their tickets on after their team had failed to get to the final, but apparently they go every year, regardless of who is playing. Fair play lads, you are real rugby supporters. They said they will all be in Edinburgh for next year's final.

Commiserations to Leicester. They have played well all season, especially in the last few weeks, but today was a step too far as PB said and you can't be greedy and win everything. Today you just came up against a team who wanted it more and were more disciplined and fearsome in the tackle.

I can't argue with you Mark. I think your final statement says it all. Leicester were ill disciplined and seemed to lack a game plan. Dare I say it but we lost it in the scrum half position. We also seemed half a second of the pace which is not like Leicester.

As I said earlier I am not going to make excuses just aplaud the better team on the day.

As for me I had a wonderfull afternoon thank you Cool

Well done WASPS worthy winners of the H Cup this afternoon.

It is ironic that Wasps' power play stunned the Tigers today, in the same way that the Tigers did the same to Gloucester the week before at Twickenham, and the same way that Gloucester beat Saracens the week before that in the semi finals.

Do teams play out of their skins one week then fold the next week?

Possibly or that they meet opposition that have just worked out how to win on the day.

It was great to meet up for a pint after the game, having played ping pong with mobile phone calls trying to establish position in an 82,500 crowd.

What did we discuss when we met up ...... Hi Fi, how sad is that Razz

The possiblilites for next season look promising!

Wasps' season-long strategy of NOT qualifying for the EDF final (let alone winning), and NOT qualifying for the Premiership playoffs (let alone winning) paid off today.

3 weeks' rest whilst our boys were still working hard ... yarda, yarda, yarda... etc

Tremendous display by Wasps, I have to say - quite until the end-of-season game at Welford Road. To allow Leicester only 1 1/2 serious chances of a Try, and defending them, and to allow no Leicester points at all in the second half takes some doing!

Double-team tackling of everything that moved, defensive pressure that caused Leicester to mishandle throughout, enormous tackle by Cypriani on the Monster in a menacing position (which I think really was the heart-breaker for Leicester) and some very cheeky and neatly-done attacking moves resulting in well-deserved Tries.

All-in-all, apart from the result, a great day out with Chillkram and JamieWednesday, and meeting up with Brian Moore Flyfisher too for an enjoyable beer.

And after all, it's only a game...*

James

* smallprint: as I kept remarking from the 9th minute... Roll Eyes

PS Brace yerself PB, JamieWednesday's going to be savage ... I can tell ...

He can say what he wants, as you said its only a game and I am very thick skined.

Don't forget we still won two finals.

However, I got the best result for me personally this afternoon so I am very happy.

Oi! That's not fair, you all started without me...

I thought that I should maintain a dignified and adult sense of decorum in victorious response to all the naysayers and doom merchants over Wasps chances prior to the game, but then I thought bollox to that, so:

NYA NYA NYA NYAAA NYA.

First time in the (almost) newly completed Twickenham. Awesome place.

Not a bad weekend for a Wasps and Chelsea supporter...

I guess we'll just have to fill you in on here as to how Wasps smashed Tigers off the park to regain the Heineken Cup when we get back tomorrow evening!

Prophetic words indeed!

Can't remember if I mentioned we are the European Champions!
