The Guinness Premiership Thread
Posted by: Chillkram on 12 January 2007
As we have a football thread I think we need a Guinness Premiership thread as well in the run up to Wasps taking revenge at Welford Road in April.
Details can be found here on the season so far.
Remember, Wasps are the play off kings!

Having sat in the Wasps heartland at Twickers yesterday, there were four tigers supporters sitting in front of me who very sportingly applauded the wasps supporters as they made their way from their seats at the end of the game.
Wasps supporters should learn some new and more amusing chants, all they shouted through out the game was:
WASPS.WASPS.WASPS.... WASPS. WASPS. WASPS.WASPS..... WASPS. WASP.WASPS.WASPS.... WASPS

Well some of the other WASPS supporters near us joined in with the monotonous shouts of "tigers tigers tigers" only amended it to "tuggers tuggers tuggers"...You know rugby fans, no imagination, otherwise they'd be watching the cricket.
He came to the WACA on a sunny day
He came from over 10 000 miles away
First he scored one
Then he scored four
Then he took Ponting-McGrath
And then Waugh Waugh Waugh
Say Tudor Tudor Tudaray
His name's Alex Tudor
And he's gonna take your stumps away
Der-der dup der-der dup der-der dup der-der
Tudor Tudor Tudaray
And he's gonna take your stumps away
How about:
"Who do you think you are kidding Martin Corry..?"
or
"ANDY YOU'RE NO GOODE"

Well although it would have been very nice to be at the game, watching it in a bar in SUNNY Spain was pretty good too! Well done WASPS!

As my old mum used to say:
'Sticks and stones may break our bones,
but words can never hurt us'

It is ironic though, isn't it, that a team that is neither the best in Britain, nor the best in England (in fact only fifth best) should end up best in Europe...

On the basis that your team plays the out of their skins one week, then completely flops the next week, it is lucky that Wasps don't have a game this comming week end

Heads can still held high - Let's get some perspective on this!! Winning 2 out of 3 Finals in a season still ain't that bad...
Corry's Comments ~
What would Lawrence Dalaglio's response be to the same situation, one woners...? Hmmm...
James
*I accept the use of the word 'narrowly' is a bit of a gloss on yesterday's result; but nothing else in this report is at all partisan!

Corry's Comments ~
- Tigers' captain Martin Corry echoed the sentiments of head coach Pat Howard as he explained the bitterness of defeat coupled with the realisation of what the squad has achieved during an outstanding 2006/07 season.
Corry led Leicester to EDF Energy Cup and Guinness Premiership glory, but his side narrowly* missed out on an unprecedented treble as they fell to a 25-9 defeat to London Wasps in Sunday’s Heineken Cup Final at Twickenham.
“We’re disappointed,” said Corry. “We’re gutted - it’s a tough one. At the moment, the pain of defeat is still incredibly raw. In time, when you can look back at the season, I think we can be immensely proud of the players and the club. Hopefully, as time goes on, that sort of emotion will take over.
“We said all along what a fine line there is between winning and losing. In two finals we were on the winning side, but unfortunately on Sunday, we were on the losing side. We can beat anyone on the day, but sadly that didn’t happen on this occasion.”
Despite a congested end-of-season run-in and the overwhelming competitive nature of all three domestic and European competitions, Corry recognised that his side had come so very close to registering a remarkable achievement.
“We aim high. Even through the barren seasons, the difference between winning and losing was still very fine. We got a lot of things right this season. I don’t know how long it’s going to take, but give us an hour, gives us a couple of days, give us a week, but when we do look back eventually we’ll be very proud of our achievements this year.”

At least GLAWS scored tries in their defeat at Twickenham.
Mr Corry can certainly "spin" a good story, he should go into politics with "New Labour" when he retires as he has redefined narrowly.
Alistair Campbell would have been proud of him

On re-reading, I realise the 'narrowly' (the journalist's word, not Corry's) refers to 3 Finals but only the 1 (Treble-denying) defeat.
I guess it would not have been described as 'narrowly' had it been a case of 3 Finals and 2 or 3 defeats.
And, course, to win a Final first you have to get to a Final; and to stand a chance of winning three Finals, first you have to get to three Finals...!

Two outta three's not perfect, but it ain't half bad - well done, TIGERS!!

Congratulations to Tigers on a fantastic season. Two trophies and one losing final is a phenomenal achievement in one season. Even harder than in football in my opinion.
They should be proud of themselves.

HERE HERE, both teams (Tigers & Wasps) came up trumps at the end of the season, and Glaws did not do too badly either.
Now all that is over for 2006/7, we can anticipate even better things for 2007/8.
Good rugger and better banter and more hi fi.

Hmmm... Yes indeed, it is all getting a bit NSR (No Stimulus Required)...
Time to wind up all this niceness, methinks ... close down this thread, and open up the "Forum Rugby Club" thread, so we can get back to the gritty argy-bargy...

An interesting thought, for the Tigers to have a better year next year they have to win everything

Posted on: 22 May 2007 by JonR
Not a chance in hell of that happening - Leicester are a busted flush and they know it. Especially as the best coach they've had for years is leaving to going back to his native Austarlia now that the season is over.

Expect them back bigger stronger better next season Jon, that treble is acheivable.
