The Guinness Premiership Thread
Posted by: Chillkram on 12 January 2007
As we have a football thread I think we need a Guinness Premiership thread as well in the run up to Wasps taking revenge at Welford Road in April.
Details can be found here on the season so far.
Remember, Wasps are the play off kings!

with the greatest respect, we finished top over 22 games and won more games.
Are you going to Twickenham on 12th May?

Seriously, it looks like it's going to be a great game, as it should be between the top two sides of the regular season, and well-matched sides.
Rugby will be the winner! (And Leicester

Thanks flyfisher, make sure you give 'em a hard game will you?
quote:As Chillkram will tell you, there's a bit of a tradition of the top team at the end of the regular season not winning the final...
Absolutely right. I think it's a disgrace that the top team does not automatically win the trophy. If Leicester win they should hand the trophy over to Gloucester if they have any sort of self respect.

Watched the Semi highlights this afo.
In fairness, Saracens did more or less roll over for Gloucester, having admitted their season was complete by getting to the semis.
Whereas Bristol went in with the mindset of 'last chance to get to the final for quite a lot of the old stagers'. And Leicester were resting a few of their top seeds.
So don't put too much faith in the semi scorelines!
Gloucester will find Leicester to be a different kettle of fish next week for the final; and there is such strength in depth for Leicester that it's not exactly going to be an easy game for Wasps the week after either...
You don't get to the three Twickers finals for nothing!

I actually agree with you FF, but rules are rules and the rules say the winners of the final play of win the league. It doesn't quite sit right with me either but there we go.
I haven't got tickets for next week but will hopefully catch it on sky,

Cough, splutter....
Are you suggesting that Saracens did not try? What arrant and arrogant nonsense! Superior skill will always make the opponent look inept.
Unfortunately, Gloucester do have a habit of snatching, actually more like wrestling, defeat from the open hand of victory that I cannot expect a Gloucester victory.

It seems that I am the only Claws supporter on the forum, but so be it

If you follow the media you would think that the Tigers were the only team going to Twickers on Saturday.
Which team wiped out Bristol the previous week at Ashton Gate, need a nudge.... GLOUCESTER, and by a far bigger margin than the Tigers did at Welford Road yesterday.
Several star players in the Saracens team had shocking games including the player of year, and their french full back played with cycle clips on, he was so s**t scared. We made Saries look bad once we started to throw the ball about and started to cut them into pieces.
If you look at the table Glaws won more games, lost fewer, had a better net points difference than the Tigers.
We drew 27-27 at Welford Road and WON 28-24 at Kingsholm!!
Which part of the sentence " We finished top of the 2006/7 Guinness Premiership" do you myopic Tigers not understand?
On the basis there might be a sporting match, I hope to see the Cherry & Whites win the game on Saturday and shut up all the smart arsed pundits, who think there is only one club in England.

Nick, you may consider this to be arrant and arrogant nonsense (and I'm sorry if it caused you to spill your pint), but I'm only repeating what their Coach said BEFORE the game! - That their sights were set on getting to the Semis, and that they were fully satisfied with that. - This is what the man said!
If you've already fulfilled your ambition before the thing begins, where's your hunger to do better?
Saracens played quite well in the first half - hence the halftime scoreline still being in touch with Gloucester. But in the second half they simply rolled over.

FF - steady on, chap, it's only a game!

Admittedly, earlier on in the season this did become a bit of a Tigers Wasps thread - but only owing to a general lack of interest/input from elsewhere. And the banter has always been goodhearted (like my good Wasps friends Chillkram and JamieWednesday, who with me enjoyed the swatting of Wasps at Welford Road at the end of the month.

I hope it's a great match next week, with RUGBY as the winner (as I said above).

Hi James
I have only lived down here for the last 4 years.
This is the first season in that time that Gloucester have really played well. What I find most uplifting is that the team is made up of a lot on very young & talented English players.
Now I don't know whether they will either play out of their skins on Saturday or freeze.
What ever happens this young home grown talent deserve some recognition, for what they have achieved under Dean Ryan this season.
Being a Londoner all I can say is I trust the Tigers going for everything, don't do a Chelsea and blow it.
Well they can take Wasps apart the following week, I am cool about that
Regards

S'not gonna happen! Wasps will prove themselves the best team in Europe, having not really bothered with the trifle that is the Guinness Premiership for once this season (been there, done that etc)!
The real Twickenham final is the week after next.

Its not good news regarding Harry Ellis and his six to eight month lay off due to that knee injury.
He was playing really well and driving the Tigers forward. He is going to be a big miss for both games!

I agree, PB, I've always thought he was a bit of a big Miss. Not as big a Miss as that Tuilagi bird, though.
