Porcupine Tree - indigO2, October 19th

Posted by: markah on 06 October 2008

I remember from another thread that there are a few forum members going to this concert in a couple of weeks time. I was wondering if anyone fancies meeting up beforehand, perhaps for a drink/something to eat? I'm travelling down by train (only about 6/7 hours or something all told on a Sunday!) and should be in the area by around 3pm.
I'll be staying overnight at the Docklands Travelodge and I believe there is someone else from the forum there who is going to this gig, so if you fancy meeting up drop me a line.

Regards to all,

Mark

Outdoor car park - Car Park 1. Have used it twice now - on a quiet night - Porcupine Tree and on a very busy night - Stevie wonder. Both times I had made my exit in a matter of a minutes or so. Did not leave either show early either.

We got straight out (Carpark 2), one advantage of standing I suppose you don't have to wait for the rest of teh row to move before you can get out.

Another Steven Wilson interview here from "metal4all".

Here is part of the interview:-

"Well, for the next album I've only written this long piece of music of about 35 minutes... It's not so metal oriented as the latest albums, it's got a more classic sound, but there's still a lot to write, so I cannot tell you precisely how it will sound. Right now I think it will be a bit more melodic, more classic and less metal. The fact is that in “In Absentia”, “Deadwing” and “Fear Of A Blank Planet”, the lyrics were about very dark themes, which made me write a more aggressive material. The new material I'm working on is more personal, so I think it'll be more melodic... Although, as I told you before, this might change any time."

I must say that I am pleased to hear this, 'Fear of a Blank Planet' had moved away from the Porcupine Tree music I like, Deadwing too.

Artists do say things at an early stage of writing, and often things change greatly during the recording process, but I would definitely be more interested in a melodic album.

Jamie,

I agree with you on looking forward to a melodic album. I suspect there will be some clues into the new direction with the release of Insurgentes, which I feel will be special.

Here is part 1 of a Gavin Harrison interview. Parts 2 & 3 are there also on YouTube. It seems like the Spanish interviewers have cornered the market on this tour and very good they are too.

Another good SW interview from the 2007 Download Festival. Interesting historical info given by a very relaxed Steven.
