Big CAP and

Posted by: Naheed on 27 May 2002

My current system is CDi/82/Hicaps/IXO/140s/SBLs.

I'm very seriously considering a supercap to replace the 82 hicaps, and the Snaxo to replace the IXO (keeping a hicap to power it)...
This would leave me with CDI/82/Supercap/Snaxo/Hicap/140s/SBLs

From past threads it appears the supercap surpasses hicaps, and the Snaxo trounces the IXO...

Question: Is the CDI upto it ?
I think so, but won't have the luxury of a demo to find out - anybody done/doing something similar ?

I have tried IXO vs SNAXO/HiCap plus 2x 140 into SBL's.

Before you spend any money elsewhere you need to kick the IXO out, you are simply not getting the benefits of active with the IXO. The difference is enormous.

Then look at other improvements.

My dealer at the time rang Naim re IXO and SBL. Their words were that it does 'work' but not a recomendation they would make. Doing the dem showed they were right. I'm sure the CDI will be good enough to show this margin, at the time I had my CDX/XPS.

Thanks Bruce...

I've taken the plunge and opted for both - supercap and snaxo, any tips regarding settings ?

Call The AudioWorks, there are some major bargains going !!!

Settings?

The Snaxo should be set up for your SBL by the factory.

Hope it sounds good!

The reason i asked regarding pot. settings is the Snaxo is s/h - but i've confirmed it has retained it original settings.

Question then is - does it require much messing, or is this purely a preference/room acoustics tailoring scenario...

I recall Joel acutally leaving the Snaxo cover off, not sure if this was to allow setting tweaking or more sinister (sounds better with the cover off) ?)
