So farewell then, you murdering torturing fascist scumbag

Posted by: Kevin-W on 11 December 2006

A pity Pinochet never managed to stand trial for his various misdemeanours, which included the murder of thousands, as well as the sacrifice of the freedoms of an entire nation on the altar of CIA-supported anti-communism and free market economics. As well as being a torturer, tax evader, coke smuggler, arms dealer and miracle worker (he recovered from numerous terminal ailments).

Thatcher was a big supporter of his too, as her excruciating, fawning appearance when he was under house arrest in the UK back in '98.

I always knew she was a malignant old bat, and we can see that by the company she kept.

I thought about starting this thread yesterday then couldn't be arsed arguing with some tosser who'd say "well, he saved Chile from communism...blah, blah"
I completely agree with the above. As a catholic, he believed in hell. I hope he's burning there as I type.

I totally agree. Whilst me and Thatch never agreed on much, her stance as Pino's mate stuck in my throat big style. Thankfully even tho he didn't stand trial, his case probably paved the way for other murdering Psychopaths to stand trial............. Step up Mr S Hussain.

I don't believe in heaven or hell but if he does, and it does exist, may he go there and have Celine Dion on repeat on his ipod as he slowly fries.

I think i'll sit on the fence on this one Big Grin

So, if what I said was drivel, I take it that you are a sympathiser with nasty right-wing polyps like Augusto then?

From Diccus's Interests: Caravanning and collecting double decker buses whilst wearing Pringle sweaters and beige slacks. I am also very close to being a Senior member of the naim Forum, an ambition i have held since Childhood. When i attain this great honour i will dedicate my life to the promotion of Naim products to the detriment of my family.

What more can I say?

I'm being ironic (i think), though owning a London Routemaster and tootling through the Countryside is mildly appealing.

Aswad. In dub was I think their best album, but I'm quite partial to Hulet (Ahmaric for 2)

Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau refused to perform in his native land from 1973 until his death in the early 90's.

Ok if we're back on topic, the Chilean military broke the hands of left wing folk singer Victor Jara before executing him in the Santiago sports stadium which served as a concentration camp during the coup.
Costas Gavras excellent film 'Missing' with a standout performance by Jack Lemmon, is a chilling portrayal of the terror that Pinochet and the CIA unleashed on 9/11 1973.

Dick Gaughan wrote a song about that. Not one of his best - bit too maudling

Chaps

This is a rather sad and hypocritical thread. You wade in like some pompous do gooders criticising Pinochet.

Whatever his faults and he had a few, he was a good friend to this country in time of need.

Of course, now that you have slagged him off, you can all claim to be kind and loving human beings.

To me it stinks of hypocracy.

Rather sad really.
