After all, Polarbear helps out with loads of good advice. For £30k you'd get a 911 Carrera 4 with Tiptronic. Even has a great stereo. This MUST be the car equivalent of Naim.

Blooooody good choice (350Z). Lots of bang for the bucks. Also, lots of tuning potential too in you're in the tuners market. Cool

Point taken about potentially large service bill with certain 2nd hand cars.Lotus, Ferrari,Astons, et al. However, the newer generation of 911's servicing is half the price of say a 964 model, & this has to be weighed against suffering the larger % of depreciation of buying (most) new cars. I'd guess that depreciation on most new cars would cost more than the servicing on a good 5yr old 996.
matt.

Have to say try a Boxster, and if possible the new Cayman (the non-S model).

Both over your suggested budget but I think if you're trying cars in that area you need to at least go and look (big mistake in my case Smile)

Don't buy a Cayman/Boxster unless you want to explain all day why you didn't buy a "proper" Porsche ie 911 or wahtever they are called now.
Cayman does look a lot better than the Boxster that said. I delivered a Mazda RX8(what funny doors?) yesterday, apart from the fact it revs to 8750 not much in it for me, too cramped and pretty uncomfortable.

You are not the only one who has said if you want a Porsche then get a proper one. I have neverbeen impressed with the Boxster, overpriced for what it is.

The Mazda's ok, I couldn't stand having to rev the balls off it to get anywhere though!

It would take me two seconds. I can't afford a 911.

Get a S/h one then.

PB,

Get yourself a late example of the old-shape XK8 (or XKR). So long as the only people you might need to transport in the back are either children, or quite literally legless, you can't go wrong.

You'll get up to 27MPG and it'll wrap itself round you and make you love it.

Maybe spend £27k and leave the £3k balance in the bank for servicing, tyres etc. Massive depreciation seems a high price to pay for three years servicing to me.

Then again I couldn't afford a new example of anything I'd like to drive...

The Xerxes still sounds lovely by the way.

Cheers

I'll bet thats a bit more than 30K Eek

I am not sure of the exhange rate but in the USA it is cheaper then all Porsches except the Boxers...

S6 is expected to be in the area of US$75K.

The older ones should be getting more affordable S/H then.

For 30k you could get a 2004 M3 saloon, coupe or convertible; try and find one where the original owner has purchased a 5 year service plan.

The S6, however good, is only suitable for company car use as depreciation will be horrific.

Peter

Not sure if that is going to be the case with this one, with the limited production run, the Lambo provenance and the euro 435 hp going into the US Models....IMO, this one will may be stable. We will see. If the M5 is ANY reference point the S6 will hold its value very well. Right now, I think you need to go back 3 or 4 years to get an M5 much below the original sticker price.

I have a deposit on one (refundable) and if I, after "kicking the tires", think I am going to take too much of a beating I will keep looking.

Yes, but the 2007 is a COMPLETE redsign of the S6....so you may need to wait until 09 or better to get one.

tell you,and see it win next weekend in le
mans,infront of all other 911s.
i admit it starts in abetter motorized class
than the 911s But:is it corvettes fault
that the 911 is so weak motorized, and the germans are not able to bring a car with 50:50
weight front /rear wheels ??????
Confused just a joke ,i am corvette freak
and i know in the superclass (but no real cars
,more aeroplanes )audi is in le mans infront.

£30k on a NEW car. You MUST be joking!!!!!!!

That would hardly buy a souped-up jallopy or boy-racer. You'd be suffering up-grade-itis before Xmas.

You NEED to spend more like £60k to get something decent these days.

Start with the new "S" Class from Mercedes. Outside looks similar to last year's model - apart from the bulbous boot, but the inside and build quality is something altogether special. The 320cdi starts at £55k but with a few extras runs out onto the road at £60k. It goes as smooth as a subsonic jet and is a real dream to drive.

Its a PROPER car.

Stop pratting about. Otherwise we'll all think your business is suffering or that you've over-streched your limited income on "flashy" top-of-the-range Naim hifi that you couldn't really afford.

You can always penny-pinch by buying the misus a "C" Class instead of an "E" Class. Most of the neighbours won't realise - well ours didn't

Cheers

A friend of mine has one of these and all i can say after giving it a drive is... wow.!!!!

Sticks to the road like s**t to a blanket and 'launch mode' is a truly wonderful experience that can only be appreciated if you try it.

If i could afford one i would have one without question.

The only true drivers car is one powered to the rear wheels only Big Grin

4 wheel drive vehicles are very safe...but when they go out of control, there is no coming back. Oh, and we are takling on roads here, not rally cicuits! Winker (so that's me disclaimer against all u Quatro/Subaru fans LOL).
