Anyone knows the records of this saxophonist?
I have listened an album of him and it seems OK.He is a interpret of Funky/Groove,isn´t it?

Try to find his "Vertigo". It's a very nice CD with Lovano on 3 tracks. There is also an album by Steve Swallow titled "Damaged in Transit", which is a bass-sax-drums trio, where basically Potter is a leader. Very much in Rollins vein. In another thread I suggested Kenny Wheeler's "What Now?" with Potter on tenor. Very good.

I have never really considered him to be an interpreter of funky/groove but more a straight ahead jazz musician.

Two albums worth looking at are Lift Live at the Village vanguard and Undeground.

A good album where he is a guest is Strange Liberation by Dave Douglas.

Potter is exceptionally adept at pretty much anything, straight ahead and groove. After all, he did tour with Steely Dan, and that's the paradigm of a Steely Dan saxophonist: straight-ahead and groove.

I highly recommend Potter's very fine album Traveling Mercies, which is both straight-ahead and groove.

You're getting there, Nuno...

Can't really add to what's been said, so in summary: Potter is an excellent team player, adding spice to whatever group he's playing with (FDave Holland, eg.) "Lift Live at the Village Vanguard" and "Damaged in Tranist" being my favorites.

Funky/Groove ? Not really...

cheers

I say jazz must be good, period. Sometimes it's good live, and sometimes it's good in the studio. I think it's a myth that the best jazz is only live ... magic can happen anywhere.
