Polish Vodka?

Posted by: u5227470736789439 on 13 March 2006

Dear Friends,

How would you describe the taste of Polish Vodka?

At 44 I have never tasted Vodka of any origin before, but today I was given a bottle of Pan Tadeusz, which is one of the classics of its type from Poland according to my friend and work collegue who just returnrned from a holiday with his familly. A very nice gift and a very nice drink. I only put an inch into a very small glass, but it tastes like nothing I have tried before, the strongest of which was of course Aquavit.

The point is I have no idea how to describe the taste, but it is smooth, which has surprised me. I expected firewater, to be honest!

LP12 has finally landed with Munch this afternoon!

I have just been speaking with him on the phone, and the grin of pleasure his newly serviced LP 12 is giving was quite obvious!

This was the TT I picked up in Warsaw and carried [horizonatlly!] via busses, a train to Kakow and two days later to the airport, and a plane to Birmingham [funny look from the security men[!], and finally in a car to Peter's shop for servicing and replinthing!

So there is more than one good thing came out of the mad journey round Poland for me a fortnight ago, now!

Great news for me that the TT is giving such pleasure. An LP 12 is surprisingly heavy after a while!

All the best with it, Munch, asnd all the best to everyone here as well from George

Yep, My mate Pawel, and I are going to Chris and Renata for a chance to see the Wedding video, obviously with a bottle of Wodka and some juice! ... ... ... !
Posted on: 03 September 2007 by u5227470736789439
The video watching party was very enjoyable ... ... ... !

I got home at a time I cannot remember, and if it had been anything other than Wodka, I would never have got to work. Somewhere along the line I picked up a big bruise on my left knee, but that hardly seemed a reason to not go to work! I only noticed it after it started to ache at work!!!

A clue as to how good was the merry making is that I walked home fine, about three miles, but could not get the key into the lock ... ... ... ! I was heard and let, though I was very quiet, and was "put to bed!"

Yes, partying is something Poles know how to do in style fine enough!!!

Also the 72/140 should be here Wednesday or Thursday!!! OMG!

Yes, getting drunk like a teenager, how amusing. Roll Eyes
Posted on: 03 September 2007 by u5227470736789439
Dear Acad,

Such things can indeed be amusing if you have the mind set to enjoy them on rare occasions. Of course this was the postlude to some very happy times in the last two weeks. I guess that the next occasion will be later in the year for my birthday ... ... ... !

It is curious to me, as when I was a teenager, I lived in a very serious household, where there was no such fun allowed. I first went into a pub on my own as a twenty one year old - having never taken anything stronger than lemonade in one before that. However my father was a vile character with a drink inside him. For most of his life he would drink a bottle of scotch a day and smoke 60 odd Benson and Hedges. One obviously learns from that, and the best thing is to have fun on rare occasions, and savour it!

Kindest regards from George.

please excuse me if this has been mentioned before; I haven't managed to read through all 18 pages yet.

Have just found Wyborowa in Sainsbury's reduced from £14.99 to £10.99. Have some in the freezer now.
(is this the same as Wyberowa and Wyberova?, I've found all these spellings on the thread).
Posted on: 05 September 2007 by u5227470736789439
I think the proper spelling is Wyborowa! If it spelled along these lines and comes from Poland it is the real thing! Blue printing on the glass. The word means exquisite.

Remember that to really enjoy it you should have a shot glass for the Wodka [down in one, and running out is a cdatastrophe - you will know when to stop with a little experience], and a long glass with some juice [to follow]. I recomend good apple juice! At minus 18 and taken with juice you will have the makings of a wonderful party - just bring some good company for the best effect, and some proper Polish sausage and some guerkins as the minimum food requirement to accompany the event!

The price is fine enough in UK. My favourite local shop has had it at £10.49 for the last eighteen months. Not quite the same as usually about £4.50 in Poland though!

Have fun! George

And I had my pissing bike stolen by some bloody UK toe-rag earlier this evening, which is just another reason why I am so pissed off with the flaming UK! I am off, and will be better than ever from a better land, and all those who love it can stay in this God forsaken land!

I now have a forty minute commute to work rather than a fifteen, being green and carless! Bugger the UK I say. It is finished.

George!

I think you need some vodka, George! But I'm looking to leave the city for the same reasons. When we moved into this house 3 years ago we had our car boken into 5 times in 3 months. Time to head out to the country.

And Marks reply is above...

Dear George

Sorry to hear about your bike, I must have missed your post above. You shouldn't have to put up with that wherever you live.

But now you've told us that, "I have a loaner bike - a nice maroon lady's model!", you just have to post up a picture with you atop it!

Laughing already in anticipation!

I have a friend with a really good new camera, so tomorrow I will model atop said bike and post what she captures!

I am sure it will look comic. I am almost too big for the bike, and like all lady's bikes it flexes in the middle when I press on, which is normal for me. It shot out of top gear [Sturmey Archer three hub gear hub-set] under pressure coming home. I must be careful with it!!

Corners very sharp though, just like an old English motor bike. Dreadful brakes...

You're a sport, George! Unfortunately I am away tomorrow and will not get back until late on Wednesday, but I'm looking forward to it already!

Better than me riding a lady's model today was me riding my own, found by one of my Polish friends, abandoned! Nice ending. And yes the photo, as such, will be of me riding my bike, and bowling the other along on my left side. I guess that it might not be quite leagal and I got of and walked most of the way, however!

Happy to have my chromed old Falcon back, George

I did not report at the time [last Tuesday] the very pleasant visit to the Talbot at Knightwick [Worceteshire but nearly in Herefordshire!] where they have one of the true great English micro-breweries, with the parents of one of my Polish housemates. This is called a cultural exchange nowadays, but apart from the smoking ban [inside] it was perfectly relaxed evening, where two non-English speaking Poles, with my housemate and his lady, had a unique [for them] and very enjoyable evening in a 600 hundred year old coaching house pub and hotel which came as a culture shock as well as an insite into what England was like probably fifty years ago, in terms of the average urban hostelry.

This was only three miles from where I grew up to the age of nineteen [Evesbatch, next to Cradley, said with a short "a"], and the one Forum Member who has been there with me is Geoff P.

On my returns to England, this the place I shall stay! [Hacking distance from home for hunting and race-horse excercising in days of yore! The hill at the back - the famous Ankerdine - is one in five for a good three quarters of a mile and perfect for stretching a race-horse, and is the another remainant of the northern Malvern Hills range as the River Teme traverses the ridges on its wending route from Tenbury to Worcester to reach the confluence with the River Severn. The back of beyond, but hardly far away from the edge of civilisation. The people are civil and solid in this part of the country].

Would you employ this man?

Or prefer this one...

Some funny pictures from August in Poland, on the second night of the party!

Almost Playing Bach:

...too late in the night to actually do it well! There was one further dance with waas wild like hell!

Starting as we intend to go on!

More Party games - Vodka in a ladle!

The first night was grand, but the second was a party like I have never known.

First happy can of beer since the Polish Wedding Photo exchanges a couple of months back - in fact only about the fourth or fifth in the time happy or not!

Nectar, though it is Stella! A gift. I thought I could celebrate my new job, though if all goes well for the rest of the week, I hope to have a proper party on Friday evening! With more than one can of real Polish beer - perhaps even a bottle of Wyborowa!

Fingers crossed that everything carries on well. The training lady likes me for some reason best known to the Gods! We were at Technical College seven years ago [she must be about half my age!], she doing A-level Psy, Sosh, and English, and I doing Maths, Physics, and Electronics, but she remembered [and I did not] going out for some bloody good sessions in those days! Must have been good if I can't remember it!
