Polish Vodka?

Dear Friends,
How would you describe the taste of Polish Vodka?
At 44 I have never tasted Vodka of any origin before, but today I was given a bottle of Pan Tadeusz, which is one of the classics of its type from Poland according to my friend and work collegue who just returnrned from a holiday with his familly. A very nice gift and a very nice drink. I only put an inch into a very small glass, but it tastes like nothing I have tried before, the strongest of which was of course Aquavit.
The point is I have no idea how to describe the taste, but it is smooth, which has surprised me. I expected firewater, to be honest!
All the best from Fredrik

Mercadona - what a wonderful place it is, and yes, I do know the Cosecha, but our Mercadona has not had it for a while, hence buying the more expensive stuff..
Being in the foothills, do you get much snow ?
We have had snow for the last 3 years, but before that it was 25 years since the last snowfall - Summer may be hot, but winters can be harsh - my solar panels froze 2 years ago when we had minus 12 - more like Poland eh ?
As you say, maybe we should meet up at some stage, though as my work keeps me in london most weeks at present, it may not be too easy in the near future, but if your next project puts you in Sevilla for some time, then who knows..!
Cheers

Or insulate yourself with Wyberowa! Fredrik

Well the last third of my bottle of Wyberowa finally hit the spot this eveing. I hope I did not accidentally offend anyone this evening as I am certainly gone, and very tired to boot...
Hope to catch up again tomorrow...
For those who might worry about my becoming impotent or generally disolute, well I would not want to inflict another generation of Fredrils on the world (or even Fredrikas!), and the bottle has been with me for weeks [since june 27th apparently], so it is not, of itself, the probelm, though, the world and human nature can seem a problem. What I cannot get over is the range between the few really good people, and the greater part who are not so great...

Too hot in Spain?
At least they are equipped for it there. The 34.5C my car thermometer recorded is too hot for comfort here and the fan in the bungalow just chucks out hot air, just like some...

Dear Frank,
Not till about four o'clock did I finally nod off, which was a nuisance as I had to get some new tyres on the old car and an oil change, which meant a rather short rest.
But the main news is that at last I have got some Zywiec after work. It almost a meal, so tasty is it. Splendid!
Hopefully it will soon come in bottles rather than cans, but it is already lovely.
Much to do tomorrow again before work, and today at work too little was achieved for reasons of what is euphemistically called 'logistics' though I suspect the 'the lack of them' might be more accurate! Sometimes days like that are necessary to stop me taking everything too seriously. Sometimes no amount of trying is going to make a success of a doomed day!!! Sometimes a light and carefree approach is the answer, once everyone has lost the plot, but before I loose the will to live!

Dear Frank,
To carry on the theme of not much being done at work yesterday, because of planning's inability to think ahead, today we broke a production record for the second time in a week, so we must be getting good after almost twelve months of honing a team attitude. In fact I sometimes wonder how we do it, as it seems fairly incredible, especially as there is almost no talking at all. There is a sort mind reading going on so it all fits together. No stress either, which is the best bit!
In fact the management have woken up to this a bit, and asked me if I would train up a new morning shift. Then they said they wanted me to run the morning shift. That was too much. I will train some new people quite happily, but once we get busy in the autumn, I want to get back into the team, and keep it happy. That is my skill, which I bring to bear by sheer force of working at a level that can annoy some people, and always keeping calm over mistakes. Some follow and see it is as easy, and some never will. The thing about my two Polish friends is that no one is following anyone - we just lean into the job, and are finding increasing moments to relax as well during the shift, which must be good. Any friction would ruin that immediately I am sure, but it is inconceivable as things have gone.
I cannot do that away from it though. I am sure that they will not spoil our team actually. It is the first time I have been totally happy with going to work. That is priceless, actually. Even other bits of nonesence then fall into insignificance.
But the reason we broke another record today was that planning got the numbers wrong again, and we simmply filled in the extra. My manager asked what we would need to drop, and as it was clearly going well, I said, "Nothing." She did not believe me and said to do the best we could...
Lech tonight, as the Zywiec had all gone. But I still think Lech is my favourite for a nice enjoyable glass of beer, but the changes should be rung every now and again!

Dear Frank,
Thinking about our team, I have just worked it out. All three of us know what a day's work is, but what made it good from day one was patience, respect, and the loyalty which rapidly grew out of this. I doubt if it would be easily repeated. We three had a real strike of luck to meet as we did, and that is all there is to it. Now we are three good friends working happily together. Let us enjoy it while it can last.
I would think the chances of it happening again in my lifetime are almost zero.

Dear Frank,
I picked up two Warka bottles, and last time I knew it would make me slightly off form, but definatley it is fine tonight; it has been a real way to help enjoy the eveining/morning!
Now I really must sleep as I have a lot to do today...
Fredrik
PS: Unfortunately the heat made one of the team ill (not me), and we had a rather less than briiliant afternoon on Friday with just two of us. Logistics again bowled a ggogly, and a choice became inevitable. This or that? And I chose (as it were) that, so someone will not be pleased. The truth is that some Fridays are impossible, and this one was... All told, this last week has been not the best from the possibilty of achieving the required results... Oh dear...

Dear Frank!
Hehe! About the Countersign!
I think everyone should visit the Death Camps once in a lifetime, and then ponder it. It is necessary to understand just what happens when people are dehumanised. I always say that no one is inherently better or worse than anyone else: We are born the same way, and we meet the same fate in every case. The only difference is how well we behave in dealings our fellow humans.
No one is born better, in my view.
Bit serious, but then I am - underneath, when the time calls for it as I believe it does in world affairs again now.
Two Lechs tonight! Fredrik

Dear Friends,
I did not even get home yesterday after work!
I brought a couple of Lechs to Pawel's house and he had the remarkable brain wave of then buying a fair bit of Tyskie!
The rest is history. We were all up talking to about 4:30 am! And perhaps not all that surprisingly neither Pawel or I were on the best form at work! In fact, as often seems to happen when I have completely relaxed, the night before, work then went beautifully, and we pulled production forward again from tomorrow.
But tonight is going to be early, for sure.
The best times are never planned are they? Niether of us could keep a totally straight face all day long, but no one thought we either of us looked a bit green at the gills! Good to let go now and again!

Interesting thread
. I'm married to a Polish woman from Krakow, so I always bring some Polish beer back to Norway. Both me and my wife are big fans of the brand Tyskie, and we have stopped buying any other brands in Poland (except for some microbreweries). Zywiec, don't really have the nice "aftertaste" like Tyskie, and this beer I don't like too much. Lech, I like, but as my wife is a hardcore Tyskie fan, Tyskie there is
. Actually, right now Tyskie is my favourite beer from all beers, but that can change. Also, beer fresh from the brewery usually tastes so much better than badly stored beer from some supermarkets, that it's difficult to compare. Sometimes, even beer I thought I hated has tasted really nice straight from the tap.
I don't drink too much Vodka, even if it's nice. Still Russian Stolichnaya is my favourite. However, for liqour I prefer Gin and Rum

Dear Frank,
Lucky you! I have been badly let down over the flat I was after (after almost a month of waiting for confirmation of dates etc), because the guy told me he (and his wife and child), want to stay there. She is expecting so it will a squash! But what can I say! 'Damn it!' basically I suppose, so I got the two property papers for the area today, so it is time to get my skates on! This weekend is going to be busy... Might get something nicer though!
I do believe that is possibly what sparked the session a couple of nights ago, but any excuse will do!
Dear Rubio,
Thanks for posting to this merry little Thread where the problems of the world are left in a wonderful haze! [Smiley].

quote:Rubio - when do you get to Poland???
We go to Poland a couple of times per year - usually around Christmas and summer vacation. This year we went to Krakow and Warsaw in mid-June. The reason we went through Warsaw this time was that we had tickets for the Rolling Stones concert, but that of course got cancelled due to Keith Richards accident

We have run out of Tyskie supplies, but luckily we have one bottle of my favourite UK beer left from our last visit to Sheffield - Yorkshire Terrier (a bitter).

Dear Friends,
There was always going to be a first time drinking Vodka in good company!
Last night was the occasion, after work, and four of us enjoyed two bottles of Wyberowa, and again it was totally impromtu.
Enough said about the after effects, but I am not feeling rough at all considering!
Hehe! Fredrik
PS: Unfortunately it put paid to house hunting this morning though...

Dear Fredrik
I will be careful, although I do have a steep staircase and the bannister is a bit wobbly!
I hope you are recovered now, but I am sure it was worth it, not least for the company you had last night. A touch of alcohol and good company is always worth the occasional fall down the stairs!
Kind regards

Dear Mark,
Thougth I feel as if I had a real beating yesterday - there was blood coming out of both nostrils after my fall - I am in a temendous mood! Not one of those times when you say, "Never again!"
Steady on the bends!! Fred
PS: I am listening to some new CDs of Edwin Fischer today, and I have just listened for the third time right through all three. It is amazing. Maybe it is like Gherkins, and I am addicted! Have a look in the Music Room. I made a huge post about it!
Good night to ya!

Dear Friends,
You may not be surprised, and may even be pleased to hear that after work I replaced my one (of TWO) Friday session bottles of Wyberowa with another.
The fast lasted a mere 48 hours, though this one bottle will serve as night cap for the next month I hope!
Unfortunately the explanation of my cut forehead beat me to work, so I was teased all afternoon as a lightweight by not only my Polish collegues. Even the management seemed to be in the know! Ooops! There response was a sort knowing, "We know what you've been doing."
Lightweight is not fair really, I have to say! After all I was about next day listening to music and getting my hair cut and so forth. A lightweight would have stayed in bed feeling sorry for himself!

Dear Frank!
The sweet Wyberowa was two bottles. One litre amd one 0.7, shared measure for measure between four of us!
A fair deal of constenation was caused by my fall, but once they worked out I was still breathing, they lefy me alone! Apparently I managed to walk back into the room where they were waiting for me, and kindly tucked me up for the night on the sofa. I call that sangfroid, actually!
It was a fantastic evening/ night/ morning, though never again will I be so slack about hanging onto the banister!
