Not sure what to believe of whats being reported at the moment in the news but either way I hope that the casualty count doesnt rise terribly.
I dont want to speculate at this stage, i just feel bad for the unfortunates caught up in this disaster...

I had just made the 25 minute walk to my local station as I had to head into London for an appointment with the solicitor this morning. The service had already been suffering from disruption due to an overhead line failure further south.
As I arrived at the station I overheard a guy talking to the ticket inspectors about explosions on buses in the Kings Cross area. The inspectors told me that they'd heard there had been explosions on some buses and on various parts of the underground network. Then an announcement came that my local rail service (Thameslink) had been completely suspended in both directions. So had no choice but to head back home.
Am now getting more detail from the news. About six explosions in all, one on a bus and several explosions in or near underground stations, including Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Bank and Aldgate (just hearing there are 90 casualties here alone). I was at Liverpool Street station only yesterday..
Well, it's one way of getting the Olympics off the front page...

Where are you getting these figures from? I'm watching News 24, they haven't given any number of fatalities so far.

Sky News website...
It's either some Islam Jihad nutters or Al Queda I expect - either way, it's some unhinged loony who thinks blowing stuff up gets action.

News 24 now says the police are being told by Arab contacts that Al-Queda are behind the explosions.

I think it'd be best to lay off the speculating until we get some confirmed reports.

Very sad to hear this sort of news. So pointless. Cannot see how this is going to help further the cause of the perpetrators?

My colleagues and I are not being allowed to leave our building here in Holborn, right in the middle of the affected area, lest there be other explosions on public transport. No mobile phone coverage here, even some land lines overloaded, loved ones anxious and out of contact, everyone here knows someone who travels on the routes that were bombed. Now we discover that all but two of Londons mainline terminals are closed. A siege mentality is taking root.
Aside from the shocking and indiscriminate loss of life and limb the greatest damage in the short term is confidence in security and those in charge of it. Not only were we not given an option on entering into Bush's war on terror, but also in the long term we can wave goodbye to further civil liberties as a direct result of this. Charles Clark will have a field day with ID cards now.
Watch carefully as this event is used to restrict civil liberties that in no way assisted it.

God?
Don’t get me on that one. No doubt the perpetrators of this will say it was because of "god" they did it.

Seemingly the first ever suicide bombers on mainland UK soil, not that's a totally different ballgame

Thanks for the sentiments Tian.
The underground has been completely closed, and I guess it will remain closed at least for the rest of the day. So if that would affect you, do arrange some contingency measures. I hear that additional trains will be running tonight.

I just watch the advertise movie of LONDON 2012 Olympics, so beautiful and peaceful.
The bombing really hurt the heart of all peaceful people in the world.
Hope something can help peoples who lost love ones.

At the height of the IRA's London campaign in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, my old nan used to say to me: "Hitler never spoiled my routine and I won't let this lot do it either".
My attitude is that there is no way I'm going to let a bunch of death-worshipping fascist scum push me about, so my attitude is one of complete and utter contempt. I suspect that a good proportion of Londoners (a bloody-minded lot, as various mmonarchs, Hitler and Thatcher have all discovered) will share this attitude.
Keep safe y'all.
PS: Question for C Clarke and T Blair: How would ID cards have prevented this, you wankers?

Are they so strange theese bombs?
We don't live in peaceful world, there's a war ( right or not, I don't care now) in Iraq and England is an active and main protagonist there( even Italy, unfortunately)...theese bombs (as in Madrid, do you remember?) remember it to us( it's not a localized war...) ..
How long should I have to wait for USA,UK Italy,etc... coming back home and for living with stillness before some bombs even in Rome ?
David

Confusingly Charles Clarke announced in the Commons that there had been only four explosions (earlier reports had suggested six or seven) - one on a bus and three on underground trains. Just goes to show how sketchy the details still are.

Jon, He will quite rightly only confirm what he can confirm as fact, and not 'Journo' speculation. Commissioner Blair's interview in respect of calling for Press agencies etc not to make the matter worse by panic mongering and speculative unsubstantiated insinuation (as per usual) was quite calming I thought.
Fritz Von Yeah, I'm glad Blunkett's well out of it

I managed to walk through Liverpool Street 5 mins before they closed it - was completely oblivious at the time, listening to my iPod . There was no sign of panic then though, but things've been a bit chaotic since then, & the rumour mill is going full tilt...
No idea how I'm are going to get home tonight, but I guess I'm lucky that that's all I've got to worry about...

Living as I have done in London for most of my life I can cast my mind back to the period from the early 1970s right through to the 1990s and throughout that time terror attacks by way of bombs were a fact of life – not a big fact but never the less a fact of life. It is my view that often friends and family members who live some way away from London are rather more worried about a bombing than those who tend to use London Transport most days as a matter of course.
After spending a short time watching a few news reports I am rather impressed and pleased by both the way that the London disaster plan seems to have been implemented and in the calm and controlled way all those caught up in this attack are conducting them selves. I do so hope that the press refrain from lurid speculation as to body counts and the like as although it may make for good headlines it also spreads fear an unease at a time when both do more harm than good.
I know that this may sound flippant to some members but in a city with a population the size of London you have iirc more chance of winning the lottery than suffering from a terrorist attack.

Roy I agree with you wholeheartedly but you know what the press is like - I'm expecting to hear lots of conflicting reports of casualty/death figures over the next few days. I'm afraid it makes "too good" a story, if you see what I mean.
