I saw this book a few days ago on a book shop and I looked trough it by curiousity. It is an attack to the Bush admnistration and some senatores who support the Iraq war claiming that Iraq was behind the 9/11.I think the interest of this book is to show us the behavour of some politics and lobbyes and how they are able to manipulate public opinion. However I don´t know if the kind of arguments that Gore use are really new or are a "deja vu".Everybody knows our days that politics lie,so I don´t know if the book deserve a read,if has some kind of message that we didn´t know yet.
Gore is well known in the media, and he uses it to spread his ideas . Not all book writers have this privelege

At the risk of sounding naive and ill informed: I thought for a long time that Al Gore is an impressive person and I consider buying his latest book.

The book is interesting for someone who wants to know the way how American democracy works, because he has knowledge and he has the experience of beeing vice president,so he know well how the system work, how candidates are ellected and how to get the funds neccessary. But sometimes the book appears to me like a personal attack to Bush administration, after all Gore is a politician. It might be possible that Americans have more interest in this book.I just don´t understand why he attacks the Irak invasion, and during Clinton presidence,Americans continue to bomb Irak several times and support armament to Israel.

Al Gore is intriguing to say the least. Obviously very smart, well-educated, and has progressive leanings, but has been largely a career politician for most of his career. Until now.
When the BushCo cabal stole the election in 2000, with the unconstitutional help of the right-wing members of the Supreme Court, Al Gore caved when he should have stood firm. He had clearly won the popular vote (more actual votes for him than for Bush ... that's undisputed). And if the impropriety and corruption in the electoral vote that resulted in the annointment of Bush had been properly investigated, he'd likely still be President Gore today. But when dozens of African-American congressional representatives approached the Senate hoping for just one required senatorial sponsor of their inquiry into the election, Gore, as Vice President presiding over the Senate shut them down with his gavel, one by one.
But now he seems to have found his balls, and has become a genuine leader in addressing the issues of global warming and catastrophic climate change. With his new book, which I have not read yet, he is also boldly challenging the very real erosion of fundamental freedoms fomented by BushCo and the so-called Christian right-wing. (Just today, the right-wing of the Supreme Court, fortified by President Junior's appointments, issued not one but two 5-4 rulings which clearly infringe on America's 1st Amendment right to free speech, the cornerstone of democracy.)
Yes, of course, most politicians lie, make back room deals, and pull all kinds of crooked stuff. And it's not just Republicans ... many Democrats are in bed with corporate interests, and the Clinton Iraq policy was highly questionable, and at some point the USA policy on Israel must be revised. But what has happened in America in the last six years is exactly what Gore calls it: an assault on reason. America's current position in the world is unprecedented in its history ... not that tons of bad shit hasn't gone down in America's name before now, but that it has squandered whatever had remained of our good name and standing as a true world leader for progress and social good. The monumental extent of regression in every aspect of life under BushCo goes far behind politics as usual, and must be stopped.
I think much of this will change quickly for the better when a Democrat, any Democrat, becomes president in 2008 ... the world, and the majority of Americans as well, will breathe a huge collective sigh of relief, and will be more than willing to help America find its better self again. If Gore wanted to run, he could be that leader.
All best,
Fred
