Ellington et al

Following on from a post by Huwge from "what are you listening to right now" choosing

I have tip toed into jazz in the last few years and the albums I keep going back to are "back to back" and "side by side" Duke Ellington/Johnny Hodges.

From knowledge of them can anyone suggest either other Ellington albums I may like or albums by other artists that have a similar feel and mood?

You can't really go wrong with Ellington. These are my faves in addition to the Blanton-Webster disc:
- Black, Brown & Beige
- Such Sweet Thunder
- Live at Newport 1956
- Anatomy of a Murder
- And His Mother called him Bill
- Money Jungle (excellent - Mingus and Roach)
- The Great Summit (with Louis Armstrong)
- with John Coltrane
- This one's for Blanton (with Ray Brown)

Then there are the Ben Webster discs - some nice ones with Oscar Peterson and of course Johnny Hodges . I am sure Geoff P will chip in.

It can be expensive, mind.
