Macca

Took my friend Kerry to see Macca @ Earls Court last night (birthday present).

Blimey- he was, as our American friends say, "ossome". Three hours, fantastic band, great visuals, and great music. The tube was packed with people "nah nah nah nananah hey Jude"-ing
on the way.

The set was something like this

Hello Goodbye
Jet
Let Me Roll It
Can't Buy Me Love
Band On the Run
Calico Skies
Driving Rain
She's Leaving Home
Fool On The Hill
Something
My Love
Let It Be
I Saw Her Standing There
You Never Give Me Your Money
Golden Slumbers
Carry That Weight
The End
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Hey Jude
Yesterday
Eleanor Rigby
Back In The USSR
Live And Let Die
Let 'Em In
All My Loving
Here There & Everywhere
Blackbird
The Long & Winding Road

Plus about another 10 that I can't remember at the moment. How many people can boast a back catalogue like that?

Highlights were and absolutely exsquisite "Fool", and the ockier numbers like "L&LD", "BOTR", "USSR" etc. The man can rock - seriously. I think he may, for all his faults, be god.

Anyone else seen him on this tour?

I think Earls Court is a bit of a barn acoustically - it wasn't built to stage rock concerts. (The only artist I've ever seen there who had great sound were the Floyd). A lot of it depends on where you're sitting. Last night the sound wasn't great for the first two or threesongs but picked up after that. It was a bit messy for he last encore - a bit like a hi-fi that can't cope with complex/layered material.

I babysat for friends so they could see McC at Earls Court.

This is therefore only hearsay, but they said the beginning bit of dancers poncing about was "Hairy Wank" (I don't know wehere they picked that up from?)

The rest of the gig was good, with the Beatles numbers being the highlight.

Not so sure about the latest material / tribute to Heather etc.

Hi
I saw Macca on TV a couple of days ago (in concert somewhere) and I had lump in my throat when he ripped into the beatles numbers. At the same time the camera panned the audience and picked out a guy about the same age as me (I'm 48) who had tears running down his cheeks, kinda said it all for me.

Saw him two weeks ago at the NIA, and I'm still singing 'Let Em In' around the house, to the dismay of my sig. other. Funny how that track seems to have been such a huge success with this band. Another which really blew me away was 'She's Leaving Home', which was more-than-perfect - in fact, some of the vocals seemed better than on the original LPs. The double CD is a good souvenir, but no substitute for seeing it. The visuals were magnificent too. One of my top 10 gigs.
