Prefix wiring.

Hello all.
I am condidering a prefix to replace my stageline on my LP12. Even though I will get my dealer to install it, I am a bit lost about the diagram on the naim website. I understand that there is a cable that attaches to the the base of the tone arm and another cable that comes out of the turntable that goes to a power supply or a powered aux 2 input on a suitable preamp. The confusion is with the extra wire that appears to be cable tied to the snaic that exits the LP12's plinth. I imagine that this is an earth wire and that it remains inside the turntable, but the diagram looks like it has the wire leaving the plinth as well as the snaic. If it does exit the plinth, what would you connect it to? Is the diagram on the website a bit misleading or am I just unaware of something very obvious? Can any prefix owners shed any light? My Lp12 has an Ekos, XX2 and a Lingo power supply.

Regards Mario.

The extra wire which exits from the turn table along side the Snaic is an earth wire.

This earth wire should be connected to your pre-amp.

Jason,

I have a prefix and a NAC 112. How do I attach the ground to the back of the 112? Right now it is hanging free but the LP12 is rather quiet anyway.

Mork,

Are you sure of the post on the 112? I did have such a "Threaded metal post" beast on the 72, but the NAC 112 seems to be flat save for DINs.

Do you have one on yours?

Thanks,
Connon

There ain't no earth post on my 112 either. Interestingly there is on the new 282 I just got as an upgrade.
I am using a Stageline and earthing via the earth post on it's box, which is definitely necessary.

So NAIM admin what do you do with the earth from a prefix if you have no earth post as on a 112?

I guess if you were really desperate you could earth it to one of the 112 bottom of case screws. I believe one of them has a claw washer on it and contacts upainted metal.

If you email Naim, they will conjure you up an adaptor that plugs into one of the sockets on the 112, giving you a binding post.

Jason, thanks for the quick response and sorry for my late one - for some reason, I was unable to post after reading your reply. Not to worry, others have anticipated my question on the 112 having no earth tag. Is the adaptor that Andy is talking about the way to go?

Looks like the 112 expects users to only have a Stageline, I guess that's why they're both part of the 5 series.

Regards Mario.
