Prince's new al*** free with the Sunday Mail

Posted by: Diccus62 on 30 June 2007

Bloomin' heck a whole new album by the squiggly one for the price of a a Sunday newspaper - can't be bad (unless of course the albums a duffer).

Not everyone's happy.............. Anger at Prince Giveaway album

Will pop out and buy one tomorrow, shame the paper will go in the recycling so quickly tho.

Any thoughts?

Another in a long line of well reasoned critical reviews this forum is famous for.

Prince is not an artist that I'd usually buy records by, but when it costs next to nothing with a disposal newspaper then I'm happy to give it go - I might just find I've been missing something all these years - was it Prince who did Raspberry Beret?

The Peter Gabriel disc was well worth having - always liked PG ever since Trespass (my favourite Genesis album).

He'll make more money on the 21 London concerts than he ever would have on physical media and download sales?

.....Despite the temptation for the free CD .....buying the nasty, malicious Mail On Sunday would be one step too far for me anyway ......I think Prince has been badly advised.

I haven't played the CD yet but JJ was right about the paper a load of puerile crap. Scanned and dumped.
Apparently BMG(SONY)are not going to sell the album in the UK. 3 million were given away BTW.

's funny, it's years since I glanced at the Mail. And you know, it's not chnaged one bit, I thought others were sensationalist but blimey, it's a bit:

"MAN LOCKS HIMSELF OUT OF CAR, NEIGHBOURS RUSH TO HELP SAVE HIM"

"It was terrible" said a witness, "he had no way to get to the Newsagents, thankfully we were able to provide at least some help and chip in for his bus fare, but it was a close thing. I've never been so close to the action myself. It was pretty amazing actually. I think Dawn at number 16 should get a medal for rallying everyone around like that. Innit."

I picked up a copy on the way to the sailing club yesterday, and the CD's a good one. Haven't had a chance to hear it at home yet though.
But in the interests of keeping an open mind, I looked at the paper too, and I'm afraid I won't be reading that again. Disgusted of Leighton Buzzard
Cheers

Likewise - bought the paper but haven't listened to the cd yet. Didn't think much of the paper though.

The paper is shite, but this CD is even worse, a real shocker. Not worth the price of the paper, or the humiliation of having to buy the filthy rag.

Could be a smart move on Prince's part though. Asociated Newspapers gave him £700,000 for the CD. As a recording artist (as opposed to a concert artist) his stock has sunk so low he'd have been lucky to have got that much through more traditional retail channels; and it might have a positive effect on his back catalogue (which, prior to 1988, actually contais a few gems).

It'll be interesting to see what this giveaway's done for the MoS' circulation figures - they should be out before the end of the week - and whether the expected uplift is sustained in the coming weeks and months.

Oh, The Horror. The Horror.

Just heard from one of my old colleagues on the Street of Shame that the Mail on Sunday sold an extra 600,000 copies as result of the Prince giveaway.

I wonder how many will come back next week?

Depends if it's got either;

a) The new CD from Grand Drive or

b) A large picture of Keira Knightly. Naked. Covered in chocolate syrup. With sprinkles.
