Posted by: Robbie on 10 May 2001

At the moment I've got an old grey snaic between my 72/140.From what I've read it must be an huge improvement to buy a black snaic and connect it to the 72/140.In wich respect must I see these improvements ?

Hi Robbie,

I bought a black bundy for my 52 to scap. It seems to reduce background noise i.e. the black passages are blacker, and it also allows me to play louder. This could be due to lower distortion I guess. But don't expect night/day difference.

I would suggest to save up for a used hicap first for the 72 if you want a real upgrade.

At present, going nuts over isolation shelves.

Like Wesley Snipes spits out toward the end of Passenger 57 "Always bet on black". The same applies to SNAICs.

More organic, more music, more detail, more rythmn, more flow. Not subtle, even on an old 42/110 combo. See your dealer, hand him the cash. You will not be unhappy. Ok - it's not a source upgrade, but a great value for money upgrade - along the lines of The NEW NACA5, only slightly more subtle.

Rico - all your base are belong to us.

Is there really a market for second hand grey snaics?!!

Why?

I got a black Snaic a couple days ago; here are my initial impressions, let's see if you guys agree.

I seem to feel as though the grey Snaic presents the music in a more upfront, brash, and "louder" way. This has its value, as it initially seems more "exciting".

The black Snaic seems smoother, with highs and upper midrange less agressive. The sound is a little more "laid-back" tonally. However, so far it seems to me that the black Snaic possesses a greater level of detail, and more of the pace and groove thing. Complex musics are resolved better, and the whole thing takes on a more "toe-tappping" quality. So I vote black Snaic so far.

Just thought I'd mention I bought the Black Snaic... in the end I found I didn't care for the slightly softer effect at the high end (I actually compensated for this by moving my Kabers about an inch further into the room, which worked), but the additional detail and PRat, while not enormous, was worth it to me.

Has anyone else noticed the Black Snaic to have more of the "groove thing"?
