Definatly a good idea. Also I have seen a few people mention an xx2 and te-kaitora replacement. Anybody got some more info on these ?

The prices are something like:

10X4 - 200 quid
20L - 300
17D2 - 450
XX1L / XX2 - 1k
TK - 1.6k
And there is a really expensive one at about 2500 quid.

those jap prices are ridiculously attractive, even taking into account postage etc etc. of course, there is the risk of damage in transit and the fact that your dealer may not be too keen on this route -- but they can always charge you for the service anyway.

anyone actually done this??

now, anyone got a friend in japan we can all use??

They went up by something like 80% in the last 3 months to come into line with the rest of the world. The difference is now inconsequential.

Frank.

frank, many thanks, i was about to go into some worthless investigation on this.

tony s: i am responding here to avoid polluting the "best naim" thread any more. many thanks for your response. bi-amped hawks with 500's -- brave man, i thought naim amps were not very bi-amp friendly? i know thats not active because shahinian apparently doesnt believe this inthe context of their speakers. i suppose you are using each 500 as a mono amp? like 135's, yes?

still, from that you say, this combination sounds wonderful, so.. i guess the rest is irrelevant. did you consider the NBL's at all?? my nephew would drool all over a system such as yours... he is completely bowled over by these speakers -- (obelisks) and i think this is his next upgrade. i havent heard them, but i trust his ears.

my system has been in a state of flux preparing for active operation for a couple of months now. i really didnt full realise till now just how much i rely on my naim system -- even though quite a lot of times, it provides background music while i work...

i think the most i will be able to affort right now is the XX2 (the XX1L replacement), but, according to my dealer, this is not due till april.

thanks again... and

enjoy...

Hi Ken. I am not sure why you think that Naim amps are not suitable for use in a biamping configuration, but my experiences have not borne that out. I am in fact using each NAP500 in stereo mode, not mono. Each Shahinian Hawk "speaker" consists of two distinctly seperate speaker modules - a base unit and a mid range/treble unit. A pair of Hawk "speakers" can be can be configured in either single stereo amp (or two monoblocks) mode, or biamped (two stereo or four monoblocks) mode. So, in my case I use one 500 as a stereo amp to drive the left and right base module and another 500, again as a stereo amp to drive the left and right mid range/treble. When used with a single stereo amp (or two onoblocks)the modules are connected by a short umbilical(NAC 5) between the base unit and the mid range/treble unit of each "speaker" - this in fact is the more normal mode of use. I have used both configurations (went from two 135's to four (biamp) 135's to one 500 to two (biamp) 500's with significant improvements along the way.

I did try NBL's, in fact listened and tried a number of speakers. For me, there was nothing that got close to the Hawks, including the NBL's. When I am listening to my system - there are no speakers - just music and the performance. It's quite amazing.

Previous to this I had Linn Isobariks since 1978.. Like some of the guys said on another thread, I though that there was nothing to replace them but was wrong. After living with the Hawks fo a couple of weeks on trial, going back the Briks was a depressing experience.

Good luck with the XX2, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

best wi

The Origin Live site implies the output ahs increased over the XX1-L. Is this a high or low output design? Which Phono board would it favour? Anyone compared it to an XX1-L?
